Yep, this happened to me with BG2. I just disabled the 3D. I didn't realize that I had to download the drivers myself - I thought that Dell would've included that in their CD titled "All The Drivers You Need For Windows XP".

Windows ME. But that came preinstalled on my new Dell so I didn't really have any issues with it.

Um, all the drivers u need for Windows XP ??
From things ive heard, that CD will be blank. Compltely Blank.
But, I would recomend going back to ME, I have 2 computers here and 1 has XP, the other has ME... ME seems to work alot faster, BTW- they are networked and have Internet Connection Sharing Enabled... but then we have ADSL- run by Bigpond...
OK, back from the Section, I would say go back to ME, it works better... and I have once in the 2 months that weve had XP had a stability problem (its the home version- upgraded from ME)... We have had ME almost since it came out, and I have only had a few problems with stability... averages out to alot less than once every 2 months or so...

So, Since the people who make Windows are Yanks, and dont realy speak the same english as us Aussies (best country in the world IMHO), since uv upgraded to XP, u should now be able to Upgrade to ME...

Ah yes, ME was upgraded from 98 on this computer... I dont think weve had a freash install since Win95B...

And incase ur Wondering - My COmp has 433Mhz Processor, 9.28Gig Hard Drive, 200Meg RAM, 50 x CD Rom Drive and alot more besides...

Hmmm. Well, I don't have the home version, but I do run Pro XP. Here's another little tidbit about it. Some of the drivers have not been created for XP yet. So when you put in the hardware driver that may be listed for your hardware, it either may not install at all, or act unpredictable. It was just recently that Compaq updated some of their hardware drivers for my laptop where I could get everything tweaked back like I had with Win ME. The only hardware that I had a problem with is my Touchpad. Win XP did install a generic mouse driver for the touchpad, but I like the features of the full blown driver. I have a TV card (via USB - Dazzle drive) that was easy to install. When I connected my printer (it's kind of old) XP found it easily and quickly. I will admit that I haven't updated my video driver, but haven't had any problems with it. I'll look around though. Thank you to whoever mentioned it. The main problem I don't like is that messages keep popping up whether I want to see them or not. Jeez. I've never had the system crash where I had to power down or anything though. I did have a program that locked up, but a quick < CTRL > < ALT > < DEL > and I was able to close that 1 particular program and get back to computing. Much more stable then my Win ME was. Much easier to install too.

I just upgraded from ME to XP Home.Best thing I ever did.I had recently upgraded system and video card and was not getting the performance I should.I downloaded all the latest drivers for everything...no good. After I installed XP my system benchmarks, which I ran Identical to what I used to run jumped up 25 to 35 PERCENT.Finally.that is where they should have been all along.Windows me is fine untill you get a new motherboard or vid card.My system is a 1700mhz PIV,Asus mother board,512mb ram, 64mb titanium ge-force 2 card.Everything else has been stable so far.I am finding that I am downloading alot of programs to make my existing programs work under XP.Being a gamer I feel It,s worth it for a 30 percent increase in frame rate. :

I don't get it.

If ME was working ok why upgrade to XP?
I have read alot of user remarks about it on CNET and
Don't plan on ever putting it on anything I have.
98SE works just fine for me.

Well, see, the reason to upgrade is a personal choice. Windows XP is more geared towards audio/visual stuff. Plus, it is built on the same architecture as Windows 2000. Meaning that if a program locks up/dies, you can selective kill that 1 thread. With Windows ME (at least in my experience), there are more crashes that require you to reboot the system. Windows XP is a memory hog though, so you will need at least 128 Megs of memory to access all of it's features. It is extremely user friendly. Windows XP comes with PKZIP Explorer built in, meaning that you can view a ZIP file as another folder. Makes for selectively picking an archive less of a pain. Also, you can set up your folders to view files differently than you can on ME. With XP, you can have preview images when you look at pic files / sound files/ or movie files. It all depends on what you want. If you are happy with ME, stay with it. If you want a little more power (speed) then if your system can handle XP, it is well worth it. I don't know how many times you have lost your entire drive and then had to re-install, but with XP, it's a dream come true (mostly). I have an off the wall Laptop and it found all the drivers I needed on 1st install. With Windows ME, there's a lot more tweaking that you need to do. XP does have some down sides though. There isn't a lot of drivers out there configured specifically for it yet. There will be soon though. And the other thing I don't like is that you have a lot of text messages randomly appearing that offer you suggestions. I suppose I could turn it off, but haven't gotten around to it yet. Also, once you setup MSN Messenger (Windows Messenger on XP), it is difficult to turn it off when you are running some applications that might use it's features (Like Outlook Express). Overall, I am rather pleased with XP though.

Well Memnoch...As long as you can get it working and you are happy with it, that's all that really matters.

I had heard that XP was the most stable Windows version as of yet.
What I object to is the added on stuff and the lack of support for drivers and the like. The fact that you may have to upgrade hardware to run the OS is another big minus for alot of folks.

Glad to the the IW back up now...that was a long wait...lol

I dont know
I got Win XP Pro
I run:
1200mhz
256RAM
60GB HD
TNT2 (i had to switch 3D acceleration off cos game is worse with it, after XP i think)
Still not using 3D card but software is good enough, it goes smooth and well so what the heck else do you need?
And BTW i got 2 PCs connected (it was easy to make with XP) together and its all well.
XP Rules IMO
