I just cast a chromatic orb and being 10th lvl mage, the targeted mage (the one in the druid's grove above the troll's cave) was petrified! But does this mean that the gear was also petrified? That does not make any sence, It is FLESH to STONE... The other materials usualy remain untouched! You can break the statue and get the staff etc.....

I think there is a chance, although a slight, that the loot will stay on the ground. Try to save, break the statue and see what drops out. If not satisfied, reload and try again. Are you sure you know what you expect?
A Stone To Flesh lvl6 spell would help, but as you are a lvl10 mage... Maybe go to a temple and buy a scroll, if you care much for the loot? as for that petrification... Try to level fast. And DO NOT USE chromatic orbs while not lvl12 or higher! I remember loosing the Carsomyr like that - took Aerie to a romantic journey to the WindSpear Hills

Don`t use Chromatic Orb at level 9-11 (I think that`s the right ones ); because only at those levels can it destroy loot. Darthiir; if you read the description of Flesh to Stone, you`d know there is a chance that what the person was carrying is also turned to stone. A 10th level Chromatic Orb acts in exactly the same manner as a Flesh to Stone spell. |

And what did I say?

Although it still may come in handy, because in lvl9-11 you'll not have good insta-death spells, and orbs are very good at disposing of merphits, goblins etc - the ones you do not want to loot Remember exterminating all the merphits in Planar Sphere with Chromatic Orbs

Well I do like chromatic orbs. It is a great spell and only first lvl. (As they say, a good mage is the one that does high level spells but knows how to use the low level ones! But what I ment is that the opponet is not acessible any more even for stone to flesh spells!

the only problem with cromatic orb is the +6 to opponents saving throw, but this can be overcome with doom, and greater malison
