I percieve time of something dependent totally on motion. Think for a moment what if everything just stops ...... everything physical and mental, then can you percieve time ? I think not. Then perhaps time may be a dimension, and it might be dependent on events for its perception. i have many thoughts, and i dont think they'll interest many people here as they're both scientific and philosophical , which by the way, most people find boring.

I see time as a herb.
No wait, oops, I need that sage advice here I think. Actually I see it as linear. But to weigh in on the backwards time travel thing - If it's possible there's still no way to change the past. Because if you did go back and 'change the past' (ie: affect something) the present you know would always have been the one derived from your changes.

But what is the fifth dimension? Spirit? Animus? Motive and intent?

I believe time has something to do with perception. I believe we cannot understand time for time, but through a reflection of perception. If one exists in an extra dimension, then of course the being possess a greater perception than we of our physical world. Can you explain the meaning of a third dimension to someone who lives on a paper? on a line? and likewise, can you even perceive what it is like to live in two dimensions? sure, you can have models and theories but they are far from a comprehensive answer if there is one. The changes of understanding, based on an increased "perception", does not add to each other, not even mutiply. It increases at a rate greater than exponetiatial, that is why our brains cannot comprehend "time" of its truest form, simply said, we humans lack the perception.
time is both changes and stops, one point at any position or all positions, infinitely large or small. Time is like a diamond of infinitely faces. One can view it from any direction and reach the same conclusion but never as a whole. Any of its faces is only a reflection, a glipse. My math teacher once gave me an example "Imagine a line infinitely long, SO long that its both ends came together and formed a circle." There could be many ways to explain this. For one, the length is so great that we humans perceive any part of it, in our life's time, as a line. Perception. [ 10-15-2002, 05:03 AM: Message edited by: 250 ] |

on time travel. this is both an argumentative and fascinating subject. everyone here could have a different opinion on hows things can be, and I will just threw in mine.
some people believe time "flows" as like a river, except this river is not our definition of river. it is something that flows in all dimension. The question is, can you alter the stream? can you backtrack? I think it has something to do with whether the universe is cosmo or chaotic, as it dictates the laws, or lack of which, of time. say if the time evolves in an orderly manner, there may not be a way for time travel. as you sat in your time machine trying to reach the future, you hit the button, and the engine starts running. Then a few minutes, for you, later, everything breaks down of aging, and you are twenty years older sitting on a place twenty years later than your own time. and if you are going back, the machine would litereally disembles around you, thus gave you no way of traveling. and say you build a time travel machine, and leave it there for 2000 years. later another scientist (or a monkey, if the humans no longer exist somehow) found the machine, and pushed the button, bam. he undergos the transformation from adult to teen to boy to infant to molecue (sp?) inside his mother's womb. How did he get there? Order of the time, as location is part of the time's flow. and if the universe is chaotic? which is a much more complicated case. meaning we can alter our time by traveling through the stream. One example, your girlfriend died of car accident 15 years ago, and you went back in time to prevent the death. you succeeded doing so, and you came back to the future. Then you found her ran off with a club dancer. What happened? well, sure you have changed the past, but doing so you altered the future. For 15 years, someone else (you) lived your life, and it ended up tremendously different from your expectation. so in order for the future to be what you wanted, you have to kill yourself and live your, then, life. what if you killed yourself? then why are you still alive? why didn't you die 15 years ago? that may indicate each point of time is a free flow of its own, only then can you "live to kill yourself." and if THAT is true, how can you change your own time flow since it is NOT affected by other time flows? you cannot. you can either change the past or change the future, but not both. If one could travel faster than light to the end of the universe and come back to Earth, what he would then see from above would be not the actual Earth but the image of the Earth as it was in the past ...
