I was an avid DnD player when i wasnt a Christian [now I am]. Got really absorbed in it especially in summer. One of those addicted day and nighter kind of guys. It would i say partially influenced my decision to flirt with satanism for a time in my teenage years. But the experience i learned from all that is a valuable asset nowadays in conversations with other folks so no real regrets. If i found the right grp id still play. Someone mentioned old Dragon issue debates on the subject I also remember those and thought opinions were well expressed back then. But as time goes on new generations of folks go through the same things, its just we've been there done that already.

Anything in life that fully addicts you time wize isnt healthy. Doesnt matter if its DnD, alchohol or anything. Be the master of it though and you'll be fine.

Well met, Vorpal. Hope you'll like it here at IronWorks.

I suppose one reason why some Christians put D&D down as satanic is that you find all sorts of supernatural and demonic creatures in D&D, which they (the Christians) fear will exert some sort of dark influence on you, even if you play a good character. Certainly they can cite the sheer addictive power of the game as evidence of the 'subtle' hold the alleged dark forces are exerting upon you. What do you think?

I think priests rapeing little boys and certain preachers blameing Sept.11 on "godlessness, gays and lesbians" is FAR more satanic than a game of D&D!!

Fully agree, Hunter. We have far more to fear from real human beings than from all sorts of spirits and demons of whose existence we're not even sure.

In the 80's I was founding member & president of what grew to become our state's largest independent RPG club. ( The Wizards' Council ) We had over 100 members, aged from 2 to 55. We took part in conventions, did displays, went away on D&D holidays, and a great time was held by all. We held meetings once a month in a local community hall.

We often ran into the D&D=Satanic protesters. After one big media "tub thump" about the evils of D&D, "concerned" local residents tried to throw us out of the hall. To our surprise and delight, the hall management actually stood up for us, saying we were the only group who used the hall that actually cleaned up afterwards !!

After this incident, I was approached by some of our members asking what we were going to do about this. I replied by saying that those who were convinced that D&D is evil/Satanic/occult were not going to change their opinions, regardless of what anyone else, especially D&D players might say, and that our time was better spent playing D&D rather than arguing with others about it.

And now, for your amusement and entertainment, here are two of the more *ahem* interesting claims made, and broadcast by Australian media.

Claim 1) D&D caused a male in Tasmania to dress up as a woman and go and commit murder.
( must have failed a saving throw .. )

Claim 2) D&D players often were known to levitate out of their chairs while playing ...
( This became our favourite joke just before a D&D session. "Has everyone nailed themself down? We'll have no levitating here, today !! )

D&D was banned in public schools in Queensland for some years because of claim 2) and some other equally absurd claims.

A final comment: It was probably lucky for the anti D&D people that we *weren't* capable of some of the things they accused us of !!

Gosh, the people in Queensland really believed that? LOL.

BTW, Pangur Ban, why does the face of the cute kitty in your sig sometimes disappear into a blank?

If you wrote something like 'The Fun of Ouija Boards', then you would have obtained some very positive results with the Board, believe me.
I'm sorry I cant decide whether you are being serious in this or not.....Ouija boards wont talk if you be mean to them, they will go off in a corner and sulk

For the same reason you can be serious when you say that Ouija boards won't talk if you're mean to them, but will go off in a corner and sulk.
