I've just recently reloaded my PC and reinstalled IWD. I never got a chance to beat it and so I'm starting over. I'm looking for suggestions about my new party:
1) Female Elf Ranger Lawfully Good LongBow/Crossbow/Bow specialist. 2) Male Human Thief (dual to fighter around level 8) Netural Good Short/Long Sword specialist 3) Male Human Fighter (dual to druid around level 4) True Netural Mace specialist (I heard there are some good maces to obtain) 4) Female Gnome Cleric/Illusionist Netural Good Missle Weapons/Bow or staff specialist I was wondering if I create this new group, what kind of stats should I set for each person (charism, int, wisdom, etc.). I've never been savy in the AD&D world so I'm just looking for some advice. Thanks

Just noticed one thing .... ranger/clerics can't use bows or crossbows .. they are restricted to weapon classes that a cleric can use: blunt weapons like maces, flails, hammers, quarterstaff and can use slings.

Thanks Foehammer. I hadn't thought about that. In that case, I will probably switch her to be just a Ranger as there are some cool bows you can pick up.

There are DEFINITELY some cool bows in the game!
I'll check out the stat stuff after I get home and add another post here later. I don't recall all of the stat requirements off the top of my head. If you are going to stick with the fighter/druid I would suggest making her a hlaf elf and multi-classing her. Getting all the stats that you need to dual a fighter to druid requires a LOT of rerolls. The druid has minimum requirements for wisdom and charisma and generally a fighter wants high strength, dex and con which ONLY leaves intelligence! And yes there are some good maces in the game, one VERY nice mace comes to mind ... and there are ALSO some really good morningstars! But the one mace that I am thinking of is NOT usable by druids.

Actually, every class in this game is pointless and worthless except the dwarven fighter. Just load two dwarvies and you will practically cheat thru this game. Now, I know some of you will not like what you just read, but I will tell that the final guy, Belhifet, I killed with a boosted dwarf fighter. I had a pot of magic shielding, a pot of cloud giant strength, bless, and haste on to kill him. It was easy though, the olems didnt even touch me, neither did he, only spells did. I had -8 ac.
Just make two dwarf fighters, install an xp cap remover, and by the end youll have 2 level 14 fighters easily, which can kill everything. |

What's the point in that, sword_ofthecoast?! Why bother playing, much less buying, the game if you're going to "cheat" to beat the game? I'd much rather have a challenge on my own. That is one of the reasons that I'm just using 4 people. The XP is split pretty good and you can get a good solid team without any extra people standing around. Anyway, here is the final results of my team:
Leader--Female Elf Ranger (Lawfully Good) str-13 dex-17 con-17 int-10 wis-14 cha-17 bows++ crossbows++ racial undead Male Human Theif (Neutral Evil) str-16 dex-18 con-18 int-15 wis-12 cha-10 large swords+ small swords+ stealth-40 traps-10 pockets-30 locks-30 (planning on dualing him to a fighter around level 8) Male Half-Elf Fighter/Druid (True Neutral) str-17 dex-15 con-12 int-17 wis-13 cha-17 missle weapons++ large swords++ Female Gnome Cleric/Illusionist (Chaotic Neutral) str-10 dex-16 con-15 int-17 wis-17 cha-9 missle weapons+ maces+ And just to let you know that these were actual roles, although it did take a while to get them. Let me know what you think. All I have done so far is just talked to people in the first town yet, no battles. --Kreios

Kreios,
Looks like a good party to me. A couple of small suggestions - Add some long sword proficiencies to your ranger as soon as possible, and make sure you keep the ranger out of ftf melee until then (he will suffer ac penalties if he tries to fight at close range with the bow) Make sure you add some blunt weapon proficiencies to your multiclass druid and your ranger eventually (after the long swords). Have fun!

Two bugaboos as far as I can tell with these stats.
A ranger with 13 str and 17 charisma. Who is he going to charm in IWD? I found out early that stat isn't *that* important as it is in BG. Better to put it to str. A fighter/druid with a const of *12*?!?!?!? Oh my. Not long for this world. But that's just me .
