Well I've just beaten IWD for the first time, haha instead of going back to BGII I am gonna go through IWD again, this time on Insane (1st/last time was normal which I assume most new players start on) but I need char Ideas! I am gonna try anything you guys post, try to be specific as you can, proficiences, sarting spell, specalists mages/thieving types (all PP or HIS etc.) stuff like that abilities- not exact numbers but if for say, you have a paladin with 17 char. say Char. High
or medium for 13
I'll take in names as well make sure to include class,race,multi,dual/level/class to all of those

This should prove to be a interesting post, wether it's been done afore or not it will give alot of people new ideas or like me, create a party for someone!
Thanks, and post away!!!!

P.S. (?should p.s.'s even be in posts??) - I'm not looking for whole PARTY ideas, just a SINGLE CHARACTOR idea so I can create a party from different resources. Thanks again!

2 characters

human fighter(7) dual to mage(necromancer)
human thief(7) dual to mage(illusionist)

they complement each other nicely and allthough you'll lack magic at the outset you'll get plenty later on. (on insane both of the will regain their original abilities before you meet Yxonomai(?) in Dragons Eye)

TCor, the following combinations were in my perty and it worked out great:

Gnome Cleric/Illusionist - an absolutely fantastic support character who saved by party on many ocassions. I won't have a party now without this multi-class.
Between this guy and my straight cleric they really complimented each other in the spell department, i.e., healing spells for starters.

Elf Fighter/Mage - never played one before and was an after thought to filling my sixth spot. This guy rocked! As a fighter I used him mainly for ranged weapons and as for the spells I had him working beautifully with my Gnome. This multi-class also saved my party on many occassions.

Straight Cleric - If you're going to play on insane mode this is a necessity. You won't be sorry.

* By the way, did you play Heart of Winter along with the free download Trials
of the Luremaster? If you haven't, go for it! Burial Island is a real
challenge and if you're going to do TotL on insane mode you either deserve a
medal OR a trip to your local State Mental Hospital.

For OTT action you should take a bard with you. They're additional songs in HoW are an absolute must - well, only one really, as the others you can get along quite well without. Gnome Cleric/Illusionist? Don't leave Kuldahar without one!

This is the party I created, and their stats and levels at the end of Heart of Winter. (I played through Icewind Dale and Heart of Winter once, then I imported my party to a Heart of Winter only game. Then I played through TOL before I went to the Burial Isle. Then I put it on Heart of Fury mode for the rest of the game. This is why my party's levels are so high.)
Aurin Striate, Human, Paladin LV29 18/68 18 18 3 16 18
Axhind Orckiller, Dwarf, Fighter LV30 18/92 17 19 3 18 2
Kendal Oakenshield, Half Elf, Ran/Cle LV22/18 18/67 18 18 11 18 3
Ariel Wishsong, Half Elf, Bard LV30 16 18 16 18 6 15
Damson Lightfoot, Gnome, Ill/Thief LV18/24 18 18 16 19 12 3
Galrond Spellbinder, Elf, Mage LV26 17 19 16 18 8 8

Needless to say, this party rocks. I know that many people think that a six member party is overkill, but to me, half the fun of playing Icewind Dale is experiencing all the different classes and races. Most people who solo or play with two or three PC's do so to gain higher levels faster, but look at my partys' levels. It didn't take that long to accomplish. Again, it's really up to the person.

Yep it's true that if you put in the work you can get some good levels. My first time around with all six left me around level 13/14 - though this was without HoW or TotL. It was tough but manageable. I would say that with the very high levels the end fight is too easy. Was for me in the end.

I guess I'm like you Auril, in that I like the different race/class combinations that you can have too. Take two Dwarven Fighter/Clerics and Gnome Cleric/Illusionists into the shower? Yes please! If you see what I mean

BTW Welcome to the forum Auril.

Thanks for the welcome Lord Brass. I have never tried a Dwarven Cleric/Fighter or a Gnome Illusionist/Cleric. I will have to try those the next time through.

The only multi-class I go for is Halfing Fighter/Thief.
With backstab on, take the fire giant strength potion, sneak up behind someone, a specialisation in longsword and a magic lonsword... my record is 250 points with a single blow! Plus they can use the gauntlets of elven might.
I also always have two straight fighters in the party, usually a dwarf and elf. In my current party, I have a straight druid, cleric and necromancer. Druids and clerics get simular healing spells, but good clerics get generally protective spells, and druids get area of effect spells, so provides a good combo. I thinking of starting over with five fighters (three human) and dual-classing the humans into druid, cleric and necromancer when they get to level 9.
This means grand mastery of a particular weapon, and lorry loads of hit points!
