The famous statue of the Little Mermaid at Langelinie in Copenhagen has once again been vandalized. This time she didn't just loose her head. This time the whole statue was blown away with explosives. The statue has been 'rescued' from the water and is now going through a restoration process. Until that process is finished the stone, where she used to sit, is empty
I tried to search google for a link to an international site covering the history, but with no success. [img]graemlins/greenbounce.gif[/img] Insane

The Little Mermaid has had a tough life:
* September 1. 1961: Bra & knickers were painted on her and her hair was painted red * April 28. 1963: The Mermaid was covered in red paint * April 24. 1964: The Mermaid was decapitated * July 15. 1976: The Mermaid was covered in paint * July 22. 1984: The right arm of the Mermaid was cut off * August 5. 1990: Another attempt was made to decapitate her * January 6. 1998: The Mermaid was decapitat

They should just make 50,000 statues of her and all those sad lil people will get bored and go away

Awww, that's just sad. I mean it's a landmark and historically interesting in addition to any intrinsic art value it has. It's a shame some people are so bored or antisocial that they can't leave things for the general public to appreciate!

Every time the Mermaid was painted red must have been after an important victory from the Danish national footballteam. People go a little crazy sometimes during celebrations.
