Here's the three battles that took me a good while to figure out...

1. Draconis - freakin misleading, invising, brown dragon menace

2. Gromnir - first boss fight, didn't really know what to expect. Once i eliminated both mages in the opening salvo, this battle was much easier.

3. Melissan - purely for the length of the battle, 7 battles in one.

and on the other side of the coin, here's the 3 battles that i thought would have presented far more of a challenge than they actually did.

1. Demogorgon - made paste of him in a minute flat. I expected him to be the hardest thing in the game.

2. Abigazal - his door guard makes him look easy.

3. Balthazar - what a letdown after some of the epic battles to get to him.

4. Ravager - i found a handy tactic on this one. I gated in a demon who attacked the swords, who couldnt damage the demon. Left me to have my entire group deal with the ravager.

One other thing, wouldnt you expect Melissan to be a heck of a lot harder than she was at the endgame? I mean, i fought some mages that had 6 or more protections to breach before i could get a hit off. She just had a blade barrier and a stoneskin. In 5 seconds flat i was greater whirlwinding her to toast. The only hard part of that battle was the 7 consecutive battles without being able to rest. That fallen solar was a pain too till i breached her defenses.

The party i had was:

Me (cleric/ranger)
Minsc (and boo)
Jaheira
Nalia
Aerie (or should i say, ritual sacrifice, since she died every battle if she got hit)
Imoen (who, for a 6th level thief, became quite the respectable mage by the endgame)

This is a ToB post, so I'll move it to the ToB forum so as not to spoil the guys here who might not have ToB yet, ok?

Moved here.

id probably say the hardest was that third seal with ALL those powerful monsters... it took me a few tries and a return trip to beat them!
and after those guys is Sendai... until i got the right combo of people to block the entrance and got complete control over my solar, it was nearly impossible...

and the most disappointing were Demogorgon and Melissan. when i first got to Demo, i thot he was gonna beat the crap outta me from the build-up i had on this forum! i was so glad when i finally hit him, and a few minutes later it was over!
and Melissan... cmon, its the end boss here! youd think theyd make it really hard somehow, but all they did is make it unrestable and have 4 'forms' and a battle between each 'form'. i was expecting some kinda super-wizard or somethin, with LOTS of minions to start out with!

------------------
It's simple. Once the Planet is hurt, it gathers Spirit Energy to heal the injury. The amount of energy gathered depends on the size of the injury...What would happen if there was an injury that threatened the very life of the Planet? Think how much energy would be gathered! Ha, ha, ha. And at the center of that injury, wil be me. All that boundless energy will be mine. By merging with the energy of the Planet, I will be come a new life form, a new existence. Melding with the Planet, I will cease to exist as I am now. Only to be reborn as a 'God' to rule over every living soul.

I thought Draconis and Abazigal were equally hard, except that you didn't know that Draconis would turn into a dragon, and you were ready for it with Abazigal. I agree about Balthazar, he was very weak, and not very interesting; just a bunch of monks. Hardest was definitely Melissan (the third time), and Fallen Solar since there were lots of enemies and you had to ration spells/whirlwinds etc. My favourite battle was the dwarf slaves in Sendai's enclave - easy pickings, but endless amounts; we all levelled up at least twice each in there.

I went to kill Sendai before going to WK so...i had to reload the fight 6 times.
I had Fighter, Minsc, Sarevok, Imoen, Viconia, Aerie. Heck of a fight. I found it to be the hardest of the 5. But, that sixth time, none of my characters died. not even Aerie. The rest were cake. Main thing about fighting Mellisan is to focus on her, let the summons deal with summons. She went down FAST when Imoen, Viconia, Aerie started throwing energy blades at her. ALL HAIL ENERGY BLADES THE BEST OFFENSIVE (not AoE) SPELL EVER!!!!

Probably one of the seals for me too....

Even upgraded, Demogorgon dosn't prove too much of a challenge, and Melissan was failry easy (though the fallen solar was a pain.)
