bows vs. crossbows

I've been wondering.

What are the differences between bows and crossbows in this game?(other than what is explicitly told you on the property sheet when you RMB on them).

In some games in the past, there was a distinct difference in the range among crossbow, short bow and long bow. Is that true here? Nothing is said.

It does seem that there are more special long bows in the game than there are crossbows.

My experience has been that all bows have the same range. The only differences are what you see on the "spec" sheet.

There are a couple of more bows in the game. Differences between them are also few.

They both have the same ranges. Only differences are what is shown on the spec's with the right click on them.

The better ammo (except for peacemaker arrows) are easier to come by throughout the game compared to lightning bolts. With the various bows most have more definitive effects such as Kill% whereas x-bows are mostly set straight out as no effects. X-bows you can merge to creat 2x or 3x x-bows. Bows you cant combine to make soemthign better.
