I think a lift on the ban would be a good idea, but only if done in the proper way.

Why not create a religion forum or allow for it in the Current Events forum. However create rules that people would have to agree to before they are allowed to participate in religious discussion. Maybe hide the forum or restrict it to people that don't sign/agree/give consent to post in that forum. That way the ones who want to talk about are kept safe, along with the ones who would prefer not to see it.

Or simply moderate every, single post. Gather up some people who have the intelligence to moderate such a forum, imbue them with the powers to moderate posts - and you're golden.

alittle easier said than done. mods are voluntary work and people who are mods here also have lives. its too much to ask for them to do this. imo

Which is why you should read my post a little more thoroughly.
I'm saying gather up some people, who are willing to invest the time into doing a great job at it.
We're talking 5 mods or something, so the post queue never gets too long.
Using the report post system is also a great way to manage such a forum - and maintain some level of civility.

All this just to discuss religion? This isn't a religious site for one, and I doubt we can have any real and worthy discussions without offending someone (someone always gets offended when something is said that doesn't match up to their belief system). So it leaves us with boring topics like "The history of religion" for which we have the internet and libraries to discover this. IMO and in a nuthsell - not worth the trouble.

I'm actually going to say yes, lift the ban, as to me, the pros of learning about people's beliefs outweigh the possibility of me getting my feelings hurt.

It would require great moderation. I don't think the detriments are worth the potential benefits of lifting the ban. Other forums I frequent always end bad when religious/similiar topics are opened, always!
