LOTS OF SPOILERS AHEAD...

See topic. Which area do you think has the most useful items, with the best risk/reward factor?

For me, its a tie between the Astral Prison and Watcher's Keep level one.

The Astral Prison is chock-full of goodies: Boots of Speed, Kundane, Adjatha the Drinker, the Staff of Air, the Wave Shaft, Melodic Chain, Pixie Prick, the Cloak of the Shield, the Gauntlets of Weapon Skill, a Ring of Protection +1, 3 Star Sapphires (for upgrading the Dagger of the Star) and some nice scrolls and gold.

W.K. level one contains some extremely useful items, especially for Archers: the Ammo Belt, Case and Quiver of Plenty, the Crimson Dart, Darts of Wounding, and some generally useful items: Usuno's Blade, Foebane, the Flesh Golem manual, Paladin's Bracers, and some gold.

That, and WK has two of my favorite items sold on top...Firetooth and the Short Sword of Mask

I think I agree that the Astral Prison is the best one .

SPOILER

They are both on level 1. The Case is in the room all the way to the north-west, and the Quiver is either in the library directly below it, or the the room with the Paladin's Bracers, iirc.

Mind putting WK goodies, and other ToB-related spoilers, in the ToB forum? Or do a better job with spoilers (like HTML concealment)?

It may be the lame way out, but actually the best single-room item selection in SOA by miles is at the Adventurer's Mart in Chapter 6. Risk = 0 (except 1 item). Reward = Whatever you can afford. With Bonus Merchants installed, you have Ribald, Ribald's special stock, Deirdre the bonus merchant, and the spell scroll lady in the top left. Multiple level 8 and 9 spell scrolls, Aeger's Hide, Bracers AC3 and AC4, Crossbow of Searing, Light Crossbow of Speed, Warblade, Helm of Glory, Staff of Rynn (the +4 weapon nearly anyone can use), Sling of Everard (the +5 weapon nearly anyone can use), Robe of Vecna, Vhalior's Helm, Mercykiller Ring, Dakkon's Zerth Blade, Girdle of Hill Giant Strength, Ring of Air, Ring of Regeneration (via Ribald pickpocket) and I'm sure I'm forgetting a bunch of useful items.

Other juicy areas that haven't been mentioned, though I think Astral Prison beats most of these:

- Bodhi's Gauntlet Level 1 (Bag of Holding, tons of magic ammo, Ring of Regeneration, Doomplate, and if you count the Dace section, Ring of Free Action, more magic ammo & spell scrolls, and fights aren't tough)
- Main Underdark Area (Dragon's Breath, good scrolls from vendors, pickpocketed stuff from the mage from the Imprisonment quest including Timestop scroll, ADHW scroll, and helm that casts Death, Bastard Sword +2 whose name escapes me from one of the prisoners in the gem)
- Ust Natha Market Vendors (Firetooth, Sentinel, Rod of Smiting, Staff of Earth, Potions of Magic Shielding, good scrolls)
- Trademeet Street Vendors (Dwarven Thrower, Blackblood, Tansheron's Bow... various indoor vendors would add more)
