TL, your pictures for pig production are entirely accurate. Ones for the chicken industry would show even worse abuses. I have never understood people's shock when they see how an agricultural industry (and it is an industry, just like an auto assembly line or a steel mill) actually works. Everybody expects the absolute best quality of food to miraculously appear at very low cost. It seems that people think that food animals freely roam a lush pastoral range and then decide to walk up to the butcher where they lay down and peacefully die, surrounded by friends and kin. You can raise food animals in "humane" conditions. It just costs more. You can transport food animals in a "humane" manner. It just costs more. You can kill and process them in a less tramautic manner. It just costs more. Where I live I can buy poultry, beef, and pork that have all been treated/processed in this more "humane" manner. It just costs from 4-10 times as much as food done the other way. Whether it is actually humane to treat animals nice up to the point of killing and eating them is another question.

Antryg, it is the cost of feeding about 6 billion people, I think we could do with about 1/8th that population but they won't let me get rid of people
