yeah yeah its a bit strange i know but i dont know where else to turn...i love gaelic and i wanna learn it but its so far too much money...its kinda a romantic language tho so i was wondering if anyone could tell me how to say "i love you more than life" in irish-gaelic. Also the word "music" in the same. I would appreciate any help you could offer!

So would I
I - mé love - grá you - tú My grammar isn't that good ( ), but I think it would be "Grá mé tú". Don't know about pronounciation though. I wouldn't know about the more than life bit either... Why don't you just say 'Ya know how fine ya are ta me?' [ 01-09-2003, 05:39 AM: Message edited by: Legolas ] |

i think its pretty hard cuz its like latin or something with a lot of oddly pronounced words....thanks for the help, and if any one can find a different (or better, or more romantic) way to put it let me know, but this will be good too.

Try getting a phrase book, available at Irish book stores. Or your library may have tapes to learn Gaelic.
It has to be available somewhere as it is a mandatory subject in the Republic of Ireland - so training aids are around. On a side note I once met a family whose 3 year old was kept speaking only Gaelic. The mother said they were trying to make it easier on him when he got to school ..."because once English gets a hold of them - it s hard to back to Irish" Its a difficult language to learn - thats why it practically died out after the 1860s - except in the west country and some pockest in Ulster [ 01-10-2003, 08:49 AM: Message edited by: madjim ] |

I know you can buy a course in the larger bookstores for about $50, teaching you how to read, write and speak using textbooks and cassettes. The problem with those is that you never know how well they work for you, nor how advanced the program is. Nonetheless, I suppose it's about the best way you've got aside from taking special weekly courses.

I may not be the resident expert, but aren't those Irish phrases as opposed to Irish Gaelic ones?
