Whilst making custom items, I thought about what weapon I should make for my fighter/mage. Think about this...A staff, when used by a skilled fighter, can be a very deadly weapon, used offensively and defensively. I gave this staff an AC bonus, because I feel it works in some ways like a shield does.

As long as it doesn't give bonus AC vs. missile weapons, I think it is OK.
