and secondly my reason is in my lifetime i'm met a few obese people (when i say obese i mean 5'2 people who weigh 17 stones) and i've yet to meet a nice obese person. all ofr the people i've met have been really horrible people. if i meet even 1 nice obese person i'll probably change the way i think but so far every one i've met has been unplesant to everyone. and no these wheren't obese children taking out there woes not knowing better, they where all adults.

Do you believe, then, that someone's appearance has an effect on their character? WHOA, that would be a major scientific breakthrough!! People have different characters depending on how they look!! Bruce has never met a nice overweight person so they must not exist!! What a load of... well, you know what I think of this. Do you truly, honestly believe that? You don't believe in the possibility that you've just too limited life experience to be able to say anything about this? How many obese people have you met then? And how many of those times did YOUR own reaction make them react against you, even though they might not have been bad people at all? How many people do you know on Ironworks that you dislike, hmmm? I am tempted to name names, simply to watch you cringe and writhe and go, "oh but I didn't mean HIM! I wasn't talking about HER! The people I'm referring to are muuuuch fatter". Yuck. I hope you grow out of this mate, for your own good as much as for the rest of us. And sorry I come off so strongly, but I simply cannot understand your attitude. |
You must be right bruce because I weigh 17 st, and I feel I could be very unpleasent where you're concerned, You can't make such sweeping statements, after all thats what racists do, so what's the real reason behind your hatred of fat people? Did a Fat girl/Boy tell you you didn't measure up in the trouser department or something? or maybe they will when you start dating, ahh maybe thats the problem you haven't reached that stage in your lifetime. I'm not suprised you haven't met a nice fat person yet bruce, you don't deserve to, most of them were probabally ok, but when confronted by your extreme predudice, felt they didn't need to make the effort. I know these things Bruce because I've never met a nice biggoted wanker. [ 06-23-2003, 10:06 AM: Message edited by: Lanesra ] |

People, you should all know that we don't indulge in name calling and the reinforcement of hurtful stereotypes.
Rather than display irrational prejudices about those who may be (in your opinion) fat, thin, black, white, tall, short or just patently stupid, try to display a level of tolerance and respect. Anyway, I'm sure that nobody here would like to have all his or her imperfections discussed in public, be it for example, body shape, political affiliation, religious belief or an inability to communicate clearly in written English. Thanks for listening - now behave or Choc gets you [ 06-23-2003, 08:53 AM: Message edited by: Mouse ]

Back to the regularly scheduled programming, I agree that obesity and general heftiness is a problem in the USA and like the points made that it is due to:
1. privileged lifestyle 2. using food as a crutch for stress (in the face of longer working hours than elsewhere in the world) I think those points really sum it up. I guess under that theory a fat housewife has less of an excuse than her fat corporate exec. hubby, but I'd say it's still largely due to stress. Plus, when Americans do decide to be lazy, they become really lazy. Though I'm proud of the fact I work horribly long hours, it's not something I would hold on to if given the chance to give it up. Especially since 3 years into my legal career I'm learning more and more that it's a Sisyphan (spelling ) endeavor. So, give me your EU working hours, and my 1 hour/day at the gym will become 2 and I will be very happy all around. |

I am very skinny. I can't help it, I'm one of those people who can eat and eat and eat enough junk food to make a whale burst and still resemble a rake with breasts. I am very open-minded, scarily so; say you don't think you'll date an obese person and I immediatly launch into what my friends call "Kyra's Culturally Sensitive Rant" (Up there with my cigerette rant and my bully rant ).

It's not often I laugh out loud, but that phrase had me going. For some reason I had this mad image pop into my mind of the Product Manager at a DIY store introducing a range of *cough* mammary enhanced *cough* tools to persuade blokes to do more gardening. Nice one - you've brightened up my day
