How to kill a Lich

[Lord Smite]

My foe is Deirex in Ust Natha. He is real big pain the the ass.

He starts out by casting every protections spell imaginable, thus rendering all forms of attack useless. I cannot remove any protections becuse of his improved invis. If i try to wait his spells out, he imprisons my main, thus ending the game. Could someone please tell me how to kill this one?

The answer is simple good buddy, and in 3 words, Cloak of Mirroring. But, first off, here's what I do.

First, throw Cloak of Mirroring on one of your characters, and send him into battle against the lich, and send the rest of your party far away from the range of his spells. Yea, he'll throw up spell protections and everything else, just wait until he runs out of spells, then send everyone in to attack.

Cloak of Mirroring (in case you don't know)- Absorbs all offense spell attacks like Finger of Death, Lightning Bolt, and Horrid Wilting. But it can't absorb any spells like Chaos or Confusion.

my half orc is wearing that cloak, and it doesnt do anything against his imprisonment. If i run out of his sight range, he gets mad and uses a teleport field to bring me right back to him

I'll try it though and just hope he doesnt cast imprison

cast true sight before you go in. that will allow you remove protections

The easiest way to beat a lich is to combat him with a mage. Cast spells like spell deflection or spelltrap if you got it(you can get it from the staff of Magi too) Deathward also helps. And elemnetal resistance(especially fire) is good.
Move up to him and leave the rest of the party out of sight. Start to summon things so he can have something to waste his spells on. He will most likely cast deathspell on your first summons, so dont summon your best summons to begin with. When he has used a couple of death spells. Summon Skeletons(they got 95% magic resistance) and maybe nishruus or haekashars. Mordekainen swords are good as well. If he goes invisible, cast true sight to disable it. Cast Ruby ray of reversal and breach to remove his spell protections. And when he starts on that imprionment thing cast spell immunity>Abjuration to protect yourself. When all of his spell protections are removed your summons will be able to damage him, and you might be able to try some offensive spells yourself and even send the whole party in for the kill.

Also if you got the ring of the ram, this would indeed be very helpful.

Only way to counter imprisonment is to cast spell immunity>Abjuration...

i have the ring and most of the spells you mentioned. (not shure on true sight or spell immunity, edwin is only lvl 15). I cant buy the spells in the bazaar cause my illusion is lifted, so the city is against me. Guess I'll just have to tough it out. thanks

I think if the illusion wears off and the drow city becomes hostile, they close the front gate and you can never leave! I am not entirely sure about this, so could someone post to verify/correct this?
