Well, that depends on what you like to play. Fighters, spell casters, thiefs, etc. Is there a particular type of character you like?

That would also depend on who you will have in your party. I mean, depending on which NPCs you want to aid you, can also be a help of determining your char. Try that approach, and decide who you would want, what alignment you are comfortable with, and what weapon/armor/spells you want to play with, then balance everyone out accordingly. I guess that could be considered the process of elimination to determine your char.

You can be a gnome barbarian. Seriously i can only suggest
classes that i think are good and bad in my opinion.

Good
Paladin, monk, fighter(any type), ranger, sorcerer and barbarian

Bad
Mage, bard, thief, cleric and druid. (swashbucklers and skalds are exceptions)

You're going to cause some controversy with that one Sigmar
Can you survive without a Mage or Cleric or Thief? I would be hard pressed to!

I thought the post might but thats probably because i did not
explain it probably. I meant that your character the one that
you control not the rest of your party. I cant go through a
party game without a mage, cleric or thief either, its just that
i like getting into hand to hand combat not casting spells from
a distance with my character.

Its a matter of preferance, I've played with virtually every class (Even a fallen paladin....right the way through ) and found that most can be both fun to play and interesting because of constant strategy changes.

Or if you get bored with the existing classes, you could always make your own kit

Well, all depends on which classes you have tried alreay. I would suggest a monk for something different, kensai/thief is interesting, berserker/mage is pretty useful, or a ranger/cleric (dual or multi).
