Turn based systems are far superior. All RTS games are about building as quickly as possible, thats why the dreaded tank rush flaws appeared in games like Red Alert.

Im going to go against the grain here, turn based games seem to lack a few things to real time ones. Foremost is the lack of suspense..even in games like Baldurs Gate you could be surprised suddenly by something that springs up on you, in a turned based one you could sit back and scrutinise because you dont have to worry about time passing by. For some people that might be good, for me it makes the games more dull and boring.
With RTS games which I love, Starcraft most of all you have to think quickly. Take a zergling rush for example, they rush you before you can build some zealots/marines to deal with it. So you have to think up a strat like getting a photon cannon or two set up which you can do in less time then zealots. With a turn based one you have no time constraints which again breaks down the suspense.
but this is JMHO

What>? Are you trying to say that you cannot be surprised in a turn based game?

The only reason Star Craft is suspenseful is because you dont know everything, havent been everywhere, and dont know what your opponent is up to. Its nothing to do with it being real time. Put the same game into a turn based system and you will still worry about what you dont know...Thats what causes the suspense.

TURN BASED RPGs FOREVER!!! I hate Hack n'Slash because then the RPG looses the roleplaying. Where's the roleplaying when you kill monsters all the time?

Thats a very good point, but hard to put into a game. The crpg Im developing has game play elements in it that allow you to bypass / talk your way out of / sneak past etc potential battles, but its hard to think of other ways around encounters without those becoming repetitive too.
