Subject: War Protest in Minas Tirith
MINAS TIRITH (Gondor News Network) - Thousands of peace activists took to the streets of Minas Tirith and other cities of Middle Earth today to protest what they termed a rush to war with Mordor. "We need more time for diplomacy," said a key member of the Middle-Earth Security Council, Saruman the White. "I am not convinced by the evidence presented by my esteemed colleague, Gandalf the Grey, or that the Dark Lord Sauron presents an imminent danger to the peoples of the West." Many of the people protesting war in Mordor agreed with Saruman's remarks. "Sauron says he's destroyed his Rings of Mass Destruction (RMD) and that's good enough for me," said one fellow carrying a sign that said "Elrond is a Balrog." Another demonstrator urged, "Give the RMD inspectors more time. There's no reason to rush to any judgment just because Mount Doom is belching lava, the Dark Tower is rebuilt, and Osgiliath has been decimated." A third protester piped up, "I haven't heard a single bit of convincing evidence connecting the Nazgul with Sauron. I think they destroyed Osgiliath on their own initiative without any support from Sauron. Besides, it's understandable they're angry with Gondor. We haven't done nearly as much for the Orcs and Goblins and Easterlings as the Nazgul and Sauron have. It's understandable they throw their support to them. It's our own fault really." As the protesters continued their march through the city, they chanted, "No blood for Mount Doom," voicing a common sentiment that the leaders of the Western peoples are really seeking to get their hands on the powerful Mount Doom, where the One Ring of Power was allegedly forged. Gandalf the Grey was unavailable for comment. A spokesman said he was in an undisclosed underground location, which sources have revealed is codenamed "Moria."

Cerek my man! That was brilliant
About time the 'other side' used the power of humour to put their stance forward. Is it all your work? If so I am sure that it could be used by some organisations or publications if you where to send it to them, it is that good. Magnificent

LOL - some interesting phrasing to the similarities, but not much in the way of parallels really .
The real Gandalf (if I can use that term )was all for united action against Mordor and not at all for pre-emptive strikes. He held in his hands not some spurious claims about ROMD - he held up to the council a hobbit wearing a ROMD. He united the squabbling council into action by giving them indesputable proof whereas your Gandalf failed to do that with his smoke and mirrors show which was really little more than a "trust me" plea. The real Gandalf took action through the security council, and thus was formed the fellowship. The spurious Gandalf took his bat and ball and his stray supporters off home and formed the coalition of the willing. The true Gandalf didn't stand to gain from the power of Mount Doom - he displayed that such was not his goal when he refused Frodo's offer of the ring. He was motivated by a desire to do good rather than a desire to own Mount Doom or to finish pappy's unfinished business. So despite the veneer of similarity that has been drawn here, everyone knows that the true Gandalf stands for honesty and truth and goodness and has none of the stains of greed and deception and hidden agendas that are the hallmark of your false Gandalf. A beter parallel is that your Gandalf took the ring from Frodo thus making him the biggest bully on the playground, and he imposed a terrible peace upon the world.

Davros - this was a purely tongue-in-cheek post to add some levity to C.E. I'm sorry you couldn't view it that way. [ 11-11-2004, 05:37 PM: Message edited by: Cerek ]

I think he did view your post with all due levity Cerek I'd like to see him write his own one with his own take on events too (I've gotta admit I find Davros' take somewhat more satirically biting in its historical 'accuracy' )

But au contraire Messuier Cerek - I did take it as tongue in cheek, and I did have a chuckle or three. That doesn't mean that I should sit by idly because then your replies would mostly come from those that say either "too funny" or "too funny and too true".
I am sorry if the LOL at the front failed to convey that I thought it funny Cerek. But even you will admit that it has been phrased cleverly for more than the reason of entertainment. The article papers over cracks in the argument with two main purposes. One is to entertain, but the deeper meaning is to portray Bush as the good guy Gandalf. In truth, if I was selecting a LOTR character for ush then he really comes over more as Saruman You know - deceived the council, went his own way, had his own agenda and the military might to start his own war. Once percieved as Bush the White he is now Bush of the many colours.
