IE tech question...
Recently had to reformat my computer, again. Prior to reformatting I had my IE address bar set so that it wouldn't maintain a list of addresses typed, considering I have the favorites menu it was extraneous (sp?).
I can't recall how I did that, and I can't find it in the Internet Options. Can anyone tell me how to get that back? thanks in advance. On a side note, what's a good free .rar file opener/creator. I know winrar is decent. But are there others, reputable clean download sources are always appreciated. And if I go with winrar, what is the official website. Soo many looks-like-they-might-be sites around. such as: rarlab-dot-com, win-rar-dot-com, & winrar-dot-com.

Re: IE tech question...
Try Internet Options, Content, Settings for AutoComplete. That might help you out on the settings.

Well, that kept it from bringing up the previously entered as suggestions, but I still have the drop down if I click on the address bar, so I'm halfway there. Many thanks. I give you all you can eat burrito privelages at Cloudy's. (errr. not that I have that authority, but you can just put it on my tab )

Re: IE tech question...
Go to Cnet.com for Winrar. I'd recommend it, as it can open more than just .zip and .rar files. http://download.cnet.com/WinRAR-32-b...-10007677.html
If I understand what you are trying to do with IE. There is a box you can check in internet options that says "Delete browsing History on Exit". It is right beside your manual "delete" button (which deletes temporary internet files). That way, every time you are done on IE, browsing histories of any type will not be maintained. However, you have to exit for it to kick in. Not sure if this is what you had set up beforehand.

Yeah, I haven't found an option that deletes it automatically, I have to hit the delete command each time.
I seem to remember finding an option somewhere that allows you set the number or stored addresses in the address bar. And if you set it to 0 nothing comes up. I just can't for the life of me recall how it was done.

Re: IE tech question...
You don't see this box on your IE options menu?
If not, update IE.

Re: IE tech question...
Nope, everything else but the box
Anyways, what I'm talking about is the address bar at the top. There's a little black arrow pointing down to on the right end of it. If you click on it, it drops a list of previously entered addresses. I was able to keep that from dropping down at all in the past, but I'm not sure how I did it anymore. Deleting the history DOES eliminate what used to be there but I can still make it drop down, which is what I don't want it to do.

Re: IE tech question...
You prolly need to update IE. You could try a workaround if not. Under the advanced tab with the many checkboxes, there is also a similiar option, under the "privacy" section. It reads "Empty the temp files when Explorer is closed". I am not sure if that will do what you want, as it could soley be the actual files in the cache that IE retains for faster browsing, or if url's and link history is included.

Re: IE tech question...
I'd been hoping the 112 updates I had to run last night would be it.
And yeah, I did that and it just eliminates the temp files, the addresses remain. ADD: ahh, IE8 is now in my qeued updates, apparently I've been running with IE7 unknowingly. Things did seem somewhat off. We'll see if that helps me.

Re: IE tech question...
Yes, iirc it's new with IE8. This is why you lost it as you reformatted.
