I was just wondering if you all were gamers and geeks or just gamers I'll start with the only things that matter.

XP 1800+
768mb SD-Ram
Geforce 3 64mb graphic card
Game Theater XP sound card
160 Gigabyte HDD (4 x 40gig in Raid 0 )
19 inch Monitor

The rest of the stuff is all gravy

I rebuilt my PC last year (the word 'upgrade' doesn't really cover it ):

ABIT KT7A-RAID mobo
Athlon 1.1GHz processor
256 Mb RAM
Seagate Barracuda 10.2 Gb HDD
Western Digital 80 Gb HDD (to be installed)
Elsa Gladiac 920 (Geforce 3 chipset)
Soundblaster 5.1 LIVE! Soundcard
Pioneer DVD-ROM (x16 DVD, x48 CD-ROM)
also a FDD and a NIC
400W PSU
Still running WIN 98 - it works and I can't afford to upgrade right now.

I still have to install the 2nd HDD, and I'll probably add more RAM soon.

But I'm intrigued - does that make me a gamer or a geek? I play games, but I rebuilt it myself and know what's inside the case - a gaming geek perhaps??

Oh yeah, I forgot my speakers - they are Altec Lansing, not sure of the model, but I got the subwoofer So my neighbours know when I am gaming or surfing - I tend to play metal *loud* while surfing

It took me ages to get the thing set up! I mean my PC was out of action for a month while I tinkered and tweaked. Not the easiest mobo to get going, but steady as a rock - my PC rarely if ever hangs since I upgraded.

LOL to think I thought about posting my Trash-80 as a joke.

And Epona I had no problems getting mine running.. and I love how stable it is...my next MoBo (AMD Hammer) will be an ABIT as well.

(I have had two KT7A-RAID boards I killed my first one with a static charge but it was only a REV 1.1 and the new one is a REV 1.3 and can use XP cpus so I sold my 1.4 to a friend and bought the XP 1800+. But both boards gave me no problems with the setup)

Ahhh - you were lucky then! I was trying to set it up initially with an Aureal soundcard - which I later found out it was incompatible with - it's a great mobo but seems to have a lot of compatibility issues with older kit. I had to go get myself a new soundcard - I was a bit miffed because although the Aureal was old, it is IMO a better soundcard than the Soundblaster. Once I replaced it, things ran a lot smoother, but it wasn't all plain sailing and I had to fiddle with the BIOS and reformat my HDD several times, and resolve some resource sharing issues. I'm still having a problem with large data-transfers from my DVD-ROM, but I'm going to tackle that one when I install my new HDD.

Looking at hardware fora at the time convinced me that I wasn't the only one having trouble with it!
