About soloing a Skald. Those combat bonuses to your allies don't really apply....

So that the game is as hard to beat as possible?
Nice question. Usually people ask for the most powerful kit. Skald (Bard kit) is indeed pretty weak, but only for soloing. They kick ass in a team. Beast Masters (Ranger kit) have pretty heavy restrictions in both weapons and armor. Wizard Slayers (Fighter kit) are unable to use any magical items/equipment with the exception of weapons and armor, which makes the game pretty hard too, as usually you rely heavily on magical stuff. These are IMO the weakest kits. |

Hi Raist!
You want the HARDEST kit? There are several which are regarded as low-power, and several which are often scoffed at. So here are some of them, starting with the Mages: - Abjurer: You will have neither Stoneskin nor Melf's Minute Meteors. - Enchanter: You will have very few attack spells, and you won't have any Sequencers or Contingencies. - Diviner: You will have somewhat fewer attack spells, and no summoned creatures to help you. - Wild Mage: (ToB only) Oh, you wanted to cast Fireball? Well, instead you're a squirl. So sorry. Now for the non-magi: - Beastmaster: some love this kit, probably, but they don't post here. - Wizard Slayer: few love this kit, some hate it, most ignore it. - Jester: in my opinion this is a fun kit, but it's not easy. - Blade: if you have ToB installed, you will eventually be insanely powerful, but in SoA you'll have a tough time. - Assassin: as above. You will eventually be insanely powerful, but in SoA you'll have to work for it. -- Nifft |

Yeah, I forgot how crappy my assassin was back in the day until Nifft reminded me. Needing 18-20 to hit anything was the norm, and 15 pts a level, even your thief skills sucked.

Shapeshifters blow chunks. Try a cleric/ranger. Not TOO difficult, but you wont be able to make use of bows or most ranged weapons, which are the ranger's speciality. You'd be stuck to dual-wielding maces and clubs.

quote: Cleric/Rangers are very powerful IMO. Sure, you can't use bows, but only an Archer gets special bonuses to ranged weapons anyway. With a Cleric/Ranger (as compared to a Cleric) you get enhanced fighting ability, Cleric AND Druid spells, a Racial Enemy and reasonable Stealth-skill. quote: Disagree on this one as well. With the right combination of weapons, spells and Offensive/Defensive Spin, Blades kick butt. Even in SoA. |

quote: Hi J'aran, In my experience playing a Blade in SoA, it's not impossible, nor is it even annoying, but it does take a lot of micro-management. I found it to be a lot of fun, though, and once I got the hang of it I really liked it. Still, for me it wasn't nearly as easy as playing, say, a Sorcerer, a Fighter/Mage or even a Cavalier. -- Nifft |
