I don't entirely understand the whole AGP 4x, 8x and 2x thing and am planning on getting a new geforce ti this week. Is an 8x better than a 4x or is it simply my chipset requirement?

I know its the speed of my agp port but how can i check that and basically find out what is right for me as they seem to differ in certain cards?

I've been browsing online but each card I see of this type seems different...some are blue, maroon or green in colour....is there any signifigance there?
It's all very confusing to me.

I don't think it really matters if you have a AGP 8x, 4x or 2x..
But I'm not a specialist on this issue..

The higher the number the better. 8x is the newest and fastest. The Xx deteminates the speed of sending information between the AGP Slot and the Processor. If you plan on buying an 8x AGP card you must make sure that your motherboard supports it first. If it doesnt then I'd buy an 4xAGP card instaed. Only the newest motherboards out ther support 8xAGP so if you got an old motherboard its probably not worth the buy. You could still use it however, but it would only run in 4xAGP mode anyway...
