Okay... I just read that article, and I *know* I'm completely clueless.

This sentence:

Quote:

Victorian paceman Harwood claimed the prize scalp of Andrew Flintoff caught at square leg then ran out Kevin Pietersen for six.

means.... what? Claimed the scalp... the redskins did that years ago. Caught at square leg? Is it pirate day again?

*shakes head*

If ever I'm in a place where they play cricket, I'm going to have to head there with someone who can explain it to me...

It's the obscure technical vocabulary that alienates cricket's audience.

Scalp is just another way of saying dismissed, as it shows the victory over an opponent.

The square leg is the place on the field where the ball bowled to Flintoff was caught

And "run out Kevin Pieterson" means that KP was running between the two wickets, and the fielding team managed to get the ball to Harwood, who knocked the bails off the stumps before KP could get close enough. That it was "for six" means that KP had only scored 6 runs previously in the match.

Hit and giggle stuff, but good to know that our 2nd string attack can also do the business eh.

Just wait until 'Silly Point' comes up!!

Yet another great preformace by England
The tri-series will be a disaster and the world cup even worse!! I bet Scotland will put up a better preformance in the opening match of the WC against the Aussie than England will.

How about "silly mid-off"? or "backward square leg"?

I want to see Canada play England now. That would be a fair match up!

Oh dear, looks like England are going to loose the first 1 day match...not really a surprise. But loosing KP to that rib injury is going to cost us any chance of winning any match

This quote seems to sum it up quite well...
"Clearly the loss of Kevin Pietersen for the rest of the one-day series with a broken rib makes a difficult task close to impossible. Essentially England are a one tactic team – hope Pietersen fires or else."
