I've had a big day today, pushing hard towards the end of the game. The Saablic Tan battle was initially difficult, but with persistance and a bit of luck running targeted characters around, I managed to win it. Then I started to get my teeth stuck into the Severed Hand itself....which has proven to be bliss compared to Dragon's Eye.

I've made my way to level 4 and have just talked with Riki about creating the poison for the guards. The question is, how do I do this exactly and what do I need?

I realise that the only alchemical table in the building is in ol' Saabs mistresses room on level 2, who I have already disposed of, along with her precious pet and her Thay friends of the enclave. So asking for permission to use it is impossible. If not having done this is the reason I can't make the potion then I'll be rather cantankerous indeed!

I have: The Tainted Demon blood, the bonding agent and the virulent agent.

Logically I'd have thought that if I stick all three into the table, then voila, I'd get my potion. But no, no many how many times I put all three in, I can't seem to get it to work. Mayhaps I'm forgetting something....

Hopefully someone can tell me what that thing is.

Otherwise, I'm enjoying all of the subquests in the Severed Hand, even if my last visit to it from the first game was just that little more hostile.

I've just arrived in Severed Hand too
I think that a character of 8, 10 or 12 alchemy must put the agents on the desk or something like that. Note, you'll get more xp if you just slaughter them off. You'll get the most if you put them to sleep and then slaughter them, but that's another story.

My Necromancer has a rank of 20 in Alchemy...should be enough I'd have hoped....but its all been in vain.

Oh well, disbelieving Riki's 'too many guards' theory, I took a tour of the first couple of levels in the War Tower, cleared the Cleric Tower, then rested on the final level. I then returned to the guards on level 3 and gave them some whoppo.

First I used Acid Fog in combination with Web, warded the entrance, then summoned a Scrag to take any who make it to entrance. A couple of fireballs and flamestrikes and frantic missile work from distance and I was surprised at how well my party was looking. They had reinforcements however, which sprung at us from the corridor - one of the Ruinlords and friends. My party had to retreat and go into solid melee formation but eventually overcame them. This was a relatively easy battle compared to claustrophobia of the cleric tower!

Tempted to get no sleep at all and keep playing, but perhaps I'd best savour it whilst it lasts.

OK, I've sped things up so I can see what to do. I've mistaken myself, the sleeping potion also kills them, and you get way more xp for just brawling them in. I don't know why it wont work for you, but I put the tainted demon's blood, virulent agent and bonding agent in the lab and as soon as I put in the last part the sleeping poison was created. I think I know the deal. Did you tell Riki that you found an alchemist lab? Sounds small, but weirder things have happened.

I did the same thing, but it was a no go for me.

My theory for this strange alchemy bug is that it was caused by the way I cold bloodedly dealt with that eminent Thay mage Vese Nejj whom according to Riki, I had to 'get permission' from to use the facilities.

I blue square attacked Dracein, knowing full well that if I didn't dispose her with a tactical advantage then, I'd probably have to deal with her later at a disadvantage. This causes Vese Nejj and his cronies to attack as well. Their deaths meant I don't get any xp for the Wizard Tower puzzle quest, but oh well - its all role-playing.

I'm going to take a stroll through the office tower tonight.

I also slaughtered the Vese and Dracien at sight, I just can't stand them
But it worked for me.. I have a hunch, I'll reload the game and try something.....
EDIT: I thought of a few things, but nothing stops me from creating any of the poisons. did you download the latest patch? Do you have any mods or anyhing, because I just don't know why it wont work for you. Atleast you slaughtered hem for a bunch of xp, like me...

I had this problem as well.. The only solution is to use the Demon Blood instead of the tainted one..
