What would you do? I mean, if you could live in that time period what would your occupation be? If you want you can even get specific as to where you'd be too.

Myself, I think that I would be a huntsman of sorts, and any heavily forested region would do. Living off the land and staying away from any population masses. That way you'd be much less likely to be burned at the stake or some other nasty punishment for being different.

OK, I'd probably have to be a man to be able to do it (but I would even undergo surg....no wait, I don't want it THAT bad )... but if I could choose any occupation in the Middle Ages it would *most definitely* be that of a monk illuminator. I mean, the kind of art they produced is unbelievable and unique. Specifically I would like to be Eadfrith, the man who made the F***ING incredible Lindisfarne Gospel, which I like even better than the Book of Kells.
Check some of its pages on one of these sites, but be warned, it doesn't even come near seeing the original in the British Library in London. When I saw it there it was like a dream come true, and I have been hanging with my head over the vitrine for an hour, with tears in my eyes making dirty spots on the glass

Yeah, ok, so I'm an enthusiast

The links:
site from B.Library
various manuscripts
and two silly address book covers but you can see the artwork up close and enlarged: stunning

More than likely a wizard of sorts. Alchemist/Geomantist/Astrologist, something like that, probably having to dodge the Church for heresy, sort of like Theoprastus Paracelsus or Henry Cornelius Agrippa. That would be me!

Mel, a Monk would have been high on my list also as they learned much, lived peaceful lives in tranquil surrounds, and devoted their lives to God. Things I respect and attempt to attain in this day.

The vow of celibacy though would be a HUGE stumbling block for me.
Though could a male Monk live a peaceful life in tranquility WITH a woman....???
