Okay here's the deal;
We have discovered intelligent life on Mars. They are as scientifically developed as we are, but neither of us can understand each other, naturally, and none of us have the technology to build a translation machine that can translate speech.. The only way they can understand us is if we send them a person that can talk to them face to face. So you are to pick someone that would represent life on earth in the best way. Who would you choose? Dead or alive doesn't matter, and why?

I would send them someone old enough to understand the ideals and info about our world, but not old enough to have a political denomination etc, or something that will bias their view.
But since I don't know anyone like that, I'd send a chimpanzee.

Hmmm, I know someone on another forum who sure sounds like he's from Mars... I bet he'll understand them. Although something tells me he wouldn't be a very good representative for us Earthlings...

if i sent someone they would have to have a working knowledge of a few fields:science,history,and math.so i would go with Isaac Asimov.he was one of the worlds most prolific writers,writing about anything and everything :cool: .

My first reaction was to say "me", but Dreamer128 already said that answer. In that case, I'll go with my second choice--Joseph Campbell.
Why him? Well, since the Martians have comparable scientific development then there is not point comparing science (our fuel cell engines would reasonably equal their fuel-cell engines) so we would need to communicate though mythological motifs, music, philosophy, and art,

I would pick myself, but that's just me. I'd pick myself because i know a lot about this topic, though i won't get into it. 2nd place would be Einstein. A true genius going up to negotiate.

I'd send them G.W.Bush - they do say that laughter is the universal language
