(SPOILER...so that everybody is happy)

I don't really care that much because I don't have Yoshimo in my party, but is it normal for this to happen?

I walk into the Copper Coronet and as soon as I appear, Yoshimo just falls over and dies. This happens in about the 6th chapter. I thought it must have been a bug, so I reloaded an old save game, went back, and it happened again.

Any ideas as to why this happens?

(SPOILER) (EVEN THOUGH I AM ANSWERING SOMEONE ELSE'S QUESTION AND WHO ALREADY SPOILD BY REVEALING SOMETHING)

I assume you dumped Yoshimo at the Copper Coronet earlier, before he could betray you.

I believe his dying has to do with the Geas hold that Irenicus has placed on him, which you can free his soul later, if you want, I never used Yoshimo from the start myself. Someone else can correct me if I'm wrong but I think it has to do with the Geas expiring or taking its further effect or something.

Best of luck in your further quests...

Always a good idea to give a spoiler warning bro. You just gave away a plot development. Edit it if you could. Thanks.

SPOILER

As Darkness mentioned, Yoshimo does die from the geas. Basically, if you take him to Spellhold, you find out that Irenicus put a geas on him to bring you to Spellhold. Since he didn't, he dies. Even if you had brought him, he would've died eventually...although you could net some serious XP by doing it that way. Most experienced players will bring him to Spellhold if they're planning on picking up Imoen, since they know he'll free up a spot...I can tell you this REALLY surprised me tho the first time I encountered it!

that's why Geas are really, really nasty. it's essentially an eternal lifeforce binding that forces the bindee to do whatever the binder asks, or die and have his/her soul placed in eternal torment. This can only be reversed by a Geas Reversal Scroll or by the will of Ilmater, but Ilmater rarely remove Geas except after death to free the bindee's soul from torment.

A Spoiler is anything about the game that's (more fun/more challenging/more entertaining) finding out for yourself instead of having people blurt out the answers to questions you haven't even asked yet. I mean, come on, would you rather go through a difficult quest involving intense battles and tough riddles to solve, and in the end be rewarded with a really cool item.....or just go look at some walkthrough on the net and find out how to cheat the item into your Inventory 10 seconds after you start the game? Getting your rewards by earning them always feels much better. That's why the more considerate of us put SPOILER tags before writing sensitive information that might ruin the fun for people who haven't gotten to that part of the game yet.
