Nebulae are clouds of dust. Planetary nebulae are the remains of an exploded star (dont ask why their called "planetary" if they come from stars, some things aren't meant to make sense).
Other nebulae are dust clouds left over from the formation of the galaxy, and they are slowly collapsing under their own gravity to form the next generation of stars. I think the keyhole nebula is an example of the second type.
