need help with pipes of zap

There is a section I can't get past- there are some pipes in a dungeon where you need to place specific items in each one in some sort of sequence to get some easter egg (a sword if I recall) I even looked up the cheat in the Ironworks site, which ostensibly lists the proper order. I can't figure out if they are supposed to be placed by different characters all at once, one at a time, if the order listed in the cheat means left to right or right to left, or if it's not correct(?)
Any help appreciated. I just keep getting zapped like crazy and everyone's at low health.

SPOILER (Medium)

I can't help you with the cheat, having never seen it. But - have you spoken with Quallo (who is nearby communing with his true friend the carrion crawler?). He will tell you the order of which pipe to put items in - in riddles but easy ones.

You then have to click on each of the pipes (in the order told to you by Quallo) to find out which item goes in which pipe. You place the items one at a time.

In other words:
Quallo - order of pipes
Pipes themselves - which item goes in which

Do you have all four items?

Hope this makes sense.

I've got all the items- I get a message saying that one of them seems to be working- then I just get zapped repeatedly and the gnarled hand that "withers and disintigrates" is put back with my group. I'll have to try Quallo's riddle again, but I am awful at puzzles. B. Baggins would have robbed me blind.

ok, as I recall, everytime you screw up the order of pipe-clicking, you'll have to do it all over again. That is, if you screw up at the first clicking, you'll still have to click 3 more times to complete the wrong try. After 4 clicks, you can proceed to start the new try.

First click shows a message.
Second click grants you passage.
From the left to the right,
3124 will give you annoying might.

The order of items made clear to thee.
Then place the items, but only once--
Clicking too much will fry the dunce.
