I can't remember the title, but instead of roling or choosing a character.. .It asked you a series of questions... And your character was built based on your history. If they coudl do the same today, it woudl be cool, maybe your friends and journeymen and even your enemies could be developed from this type of storyline. Such as... When 10, a kid at school is picking on a nerd, what do you do.. a, b, c, d, or e... I chose a, and beat the kid up, the nerd becomes a friend.. he is now a wizard and saves my life when 16.. etc. What do you think?

I remember 3 where you have an history:

Ultima? (sounded like this?) You have vailantly fought a dragon... but when you arrive at the castle a poor man claimes to have killed the dragon instead...

do you show:

VALOR and show the dragon's head to the king?
Or
COMPASION and let the poor man get the reward to feed his family?

Ogre Battle?

You and your men have just fought a major war againts a rich ennemy do you:

A)Give the gold to your men and keep little for your self?
B)Take an equal share of the money
C)Kill your men while they are drunk and steal their share

Dark Lands?
1)You are born from a (Noble, Aristocrat, Rich merchant, Artisant, commoner, peasant)
2)at the age of 20 you are a (Solgier, student, apprenti-Alchemist, Oblate, Merchant, Nun/Priest, Thug, Robber, Swindler, Vagabon)
3)you can aventure now or get a better profession if you age 5 years

Personaly I prefer a game like Phantasy Star 3 where you caracter gets old , Marries and an other generation takes up the fight (Darklands also had that feature)

I can recommend another game really worth playing even if many dislike it cause of it's lack of graphics...
ADOM.. Ancient Domains Of Mystery, can be found at http://www.adom.de/
Sorry for advertizing another game on IronWoks site but it is freeware so I don't consider it a compedator to Black Isle.
Think that must be the game I have spent most hours in front of...
It's really huge..

Nothing wrong with advertising other games here, as long as they're cool.

Sick of rolling? Neverwinter Nights supposedly uses a point-based system for character generation

Marillion good call on A.D.O.M. Not exactly high-tech, but an incredibly varied, extremely difficult but rich CRPG experience. The ASCII graphics are kind of a downer, though.

A similarly complex product, also free, called Ragnarok, has a mouse driven interface, automapping, notes, quests, relics, etc. etc. and it looked pretty cool. In any case, that one's at:
