Rememeber a long time ago, kids (or was it adults) that voted for the name for the new shuttle Discovery (or was it Endevor or Atlantis)?
Anyway, I propose that the name for the NEW shuttle be called: LIBERTY What do you think? I think it would be GREAT! Escpecially for what happened yesterday, and on 9-11-01. Shuttle Liberty.... has a nice ring to it!!!

I thought there was already a shuttle called Liberty!
*smacks head* D'OH! It was a ship! (wasn't it? ) If it was a ship, then yeah, that's a great name!

One of the Mercury capsules was named Liberty 7, so it might not work. Good idea though.

I like it. But how about Shuttle Eleutherios? Eleutherios (or simply Helius) being the greek god of freedom?

Not the most original name, but it would probably be fitting (especially considering its an American shuttle )

The problem is that all if not of the original tooling has been scraped. And NASA is going through a new design phase for a space craft. Some of the proposals have air breathing engines as well as rockets. (Most likely a space craft launched from an aircraft.) There'll be ,most likely, a whole new round of naming for these when a design is selected.

There was also an American ship, U.S.S. Liberty, which was sunk by the Israeli air force by mistake. Kat, I think that this is the one you are thinking of.
