I love blade, They are like a show-man with a deadly art. They have cool tricks loke the spins, mage spells, 2weapon-style, thief tricks but what I hate is the poor rogue Thac0 thay have. The best will be a human Blade switching to a fighter later. Imagine the power of the spin with a 15 level fight that can cast a few spells and backstab !

Bad advice! Nothing wrong with a blade but bards cannot dual class! Always play half-elf as a bard, better resistance to charm and sleep spells.

I agree - half-elfs seem to works best. Personally though, I don't care for Bards much. I had a Skald as my main character in my last game and I got so fed up with him I started over -- and I was on chapter five when I decided to scrap my game and start anew. Part of the reason I started over though was because I picked a bad allignment: chaotic nuetral.
Bards do work good for good for identifying objects though and that's what I miss most. |

Mordigan, this post answered a question I had in another thread. Sorry you gave up on the Skald. Bards have been my fav. class in BG1 and IWD, and second only to the Monk in BG2. I've been playing my latest game as a Jester, but Blades rock!

The 4th time through I played a Neutral Evil Jester. It was fun. Idetifying was a breeze. Picking pockets was fun -- hardly ever failed. It took a while to hunt down good armor.
*Minor spoiler/Advice: Try doing the quest to find Heaer Dalis. And when you are in the Underdark, look for the Mindflayers. There are some bard items along the way. Don't underestimate the value of wands. My bard usually sat in the middle of the party with a bow and fired off wands (Monster Summoning and Fire were the most used). |

Ah yes, pickpocketing - no money hassles, access to the best items in the game. I went to the Asylum with 100 000 gold pieces!! Yes 100 000gp!!!!! The Jester is a lot of fun. Confusion worked a treat on most enemies too. Only downside was that unlike other Bards the Jester can't use Halberds and Bastards swords. Oh well.
