The have no body hair below the eyes. What they have is only for aesthetic.

They were created by the elven gods, so they were never "monkeys" so they never had a need for body hair. They also don't have canines. This was said in the 2nd edition elven handbook, if I remember right.
Yes, it does mention the lack of canines and the reasoning behind the it being the lack of evolution. But on page 111 there is picture of a large battle between drow and surface evles and some of them have moustaches. Perhaps Loth gave the male drow facial hair to further distinguish them from their surface brethren. Only one other picture in the book shows an elf with facial hair, but I beleive it is a half-elf.

I still have no comment on the pubes though.
Don't put too much importance into some moderately skilled artists.

I've seen some pretty stupid tings from artists. Most of the time, they have almost no clue of what they are expected to draw.

On one novel I own, on the cover, there is the picture of a diplomatic character that can't fight, and on that picture, she is wearing an armor and carying a long sword... I don't understand how such obvious mistakes can be ignored by the people making books.

Where the hell did you hear that from? I can't stop my hair from growing

Do elves have pubic hair? I really couldn't tell you buddy, but I think it's kind of weird some people on the board actually know the answer to that

Those are Forgotten Realms Elves. Tolkien's Elves are physically indistinguishible from Men except for their beauty and immortality. You can get in a LOT of trouble in some Forums for suggesting that Elves had pointed ears!

How about Elrond Halfelven? That was where the whole idea of half-elves was born.

Here you go, problem solved, you can check for yourselves if you just send any elves and half elves you know, to this place in Pangur's thread to use the restrooms.

If they're going to do that, what would be the point of having the cubicles?

Yes, except that he is mostly unique, so it would be half-elf. There is not a lot of half-elf in Middle Earth.
