I'm curious to know how people fared at passing the eight tests in the monastry in order to gain access to the underdark.
Using my Cleric I sailed through them all, never having to change characters once. The key for me was monster summoning and strength augmentation spells.
Even doing the test with the Sand Monks the creatures I summoned (alongside my cleric) made quick work of them and I didn't even bother trying to lure em into the fire spouts. I was reading an IWD2 solution and it gave tips about what class to choose for each test etc. but it wasn't even necessary here...did everyone find it as easy as I did?

The first time around I used a Monk. I found that she had to be healed between test, otherwise she did just fine.

The second time I played the game through, I used an evil party. Just killed everyone in the Monestary.

Me too I used a monk and i didn't have any problem. Of course I had to heal him between trials, but i ran quickly through this part of the game.

The first time I went through, I had a hard time with the third room (lighning monks). Then I realized *I* was supposed to kill them. I got confused when they'd "evaporate" and then regenerate in the lightning bolts.

Otherwise, I pretty much just killed everything.

Using a monk for the 8 Chambers is probably always the first, best option.

However, if you do not have a monk, you next best choice is ... a cleric.

(special aside... you do not have to use the same character for each chamber.)

So why a cleric? Summoned monsters!!! A cleric isn't up to fighting most of the chamber battles him/herself, but the monsters that can be summoned can.

I used my Barbarian for the fighting chambers, and my Cleric for the ones that required spells -
like protection from fire or lighting.

No issue with using different characters for different chambers - still got access to the tomb

Used my mage and 4x Animate Dead. The monks couldn't touch the Zombie Lords and the Greater Boneguards ripped through them. Sunfire did wonder on the spiders.

Yeah the Animate Dead spell is pretty nifty in IWD2. I was sick to death (pun intended) of getting like 3 skeletons, they really needed to make that change. Plus the Animate Dead spell last so much longer than monster summoning spells so I can see how the wizzy would be a good class to use (or again the Cleric).

I had a really hard time with that last room my 2nd time through, as i had no monk. I sent my 190 HP barbarian in, and with an axe, the best i could ever get was 1 dead, and 1 hurt of those brass monks. they were dishing out 10 blunt dmg, but 30 fire dmg! i deleted my barb, added a monk, CLUA consoled him up to current, and he went in cleaned up fairly easily. This test is definitely slanted towards monks.
