And no, I'm not just saying this because I lost mine and have spent about an hour and a half of precious real time trying to find the stupid beast. I just can't see any value in owning a horse. Let's list the pros and cons:

Pros:
1. Looks good as long as you're not riding it
2. Boosts your ego when you gallop past the plebs on foot when not fast travelling

Cons:
1. Horrible to steer
2. You can't fight from horseback - you have to dismount which really sucks
3. Fast travel option negates their speed advantage in real terms
4. You don't get to improve your athletics and acrobatics skills on horseback
5. I can run nearly as fast as a horse can gallop anyway
6. They get LOST!!!

Cons: Enemies make a beeline for your horse instead of you...

Am i the only person who thinks that the horse controls are intuitive, natural and easy?

The geegees were really only meant to satiate the thousands of fans who wanted the extra roleplay value. With no practical use for them (yet...) the powergamers get nothing from horses. Combat should fix it a little, as well as a mod that enables the use of horses as pack animals and, more importantly, food.

I'd prefer a Hummer actually. Or a Lincoln Navigator. (Now that I'm in the US I have to get into the bigger is better thing. )

I have to agree with Memnoch re the general uselessness of horses. I love my horsey (I'm still using Prior Maberol's horse) but I would never actually ride him anywhere, aside from fast travelling. The controls, while they make sense, are irritating, I hate that I can't just turn around and see behind me (which of course makes sense), and I find the up-downness of riding on the horse quite unpleasant.

I have a question about horses - if I buy a new horse (pointless expense, of course, but just suppose), what would happen to my current horse? Can I trade him in? Would he just turn up everywhere I fast travel to with my new horse?

Same. I can't stand the controls either...they seem so clunky. It just doesn't feel like I am riding a steed. Mine is just for show too. I will tell you a secret. I really don't care whether he is stabled outside the city or not.

Wow. Three people, myself included, who actually like the horse controls.

AFAIK, you can only have one horse. But i'm 100% on that. The only time i used a horse was with my first character and i stuck with Prior Marabel's paint horse for the entire game.

He just disappears, if I recall correctly. Because there's only ever one horse waiting for you when you exit a city (your current horse).
