I can't believe there's no patch for the controls in the game. Like "Esc"
to exit a window etc. I tried to start again a few times but the contols
drove me nuts! I also can't figure out how to get rid of the old
characters. I've even uninstalled the whole game and their still there!?

1. The hotkeys. You can define hotkeys only for such actions like "jump", "turn left", "carry" and similar common actions. This can be done in the "keyboard" section of the game controls. Do not overlook, that the section has three screens, not only one.

2. Deleting characters. This can be done only in the Valeia inn. Add the character to your party and the "Delete PC" button will appear. Click the button. Note that:
- If the deleted character has money in the bank then the money are lost forever. Therefore, do not forget to "rewrite" the money to some other character first.
- If the deleted character carries some items then the items are lost forever. Only the money in the character's inventory will be passed to another character and only if there is some another character in your current party. Therefore, do not forget to pass the items to another character.

3. If you uninstall the game, some files will not be deleted. If you reinstall the game into the same directory, the old files will be found and used. Therefore, if you want to reinstall totally then you have to delete the game directory manually after uninstalling and before reinstalling.

4. Making a short process with the contents of the inn. If I understand well the game logic, you will need to delete the roster.dat file. I am not an expert in the game files so that you'd better wait for advices of the more experienced ones. They will follow surely.

Welcome to the board, Variol (Farseer) Elmwood!!!

Yes, character information is stored in the Roster.dat - a file which is not deleted automatically when you uninstall and reinstall the game. If you really want to clear the entire game to reinstall it, delete the folder where the game files are being stored.

There is a patch and there is a list in the Best Tips thread which tells you what the patch does and does not do. I recommend playing the game without the patch unless you really need it. It was an "unofficial" patch and does fix some issues but support for this game by Activision has been nill. This forum has provided a lot more support and solved many more problems than they have.

Hope you get the game running as you like! It is a very good game!

Welcome to the board, Variol Elmwood.

It seems Radek and Wyvern have provided you with the answers. One thing, though: Be sure that you have reset the adventure before deleting the characters. Otherwise they may have one or more "quest items" in their inventory. A character with a quest item in his or her inventory cannot be deleted.

I ran into the same problem when I played the game for the first time. It also took me some time and one case of reinstalling the game before solving the problem. I agree, it could have been made a great deal more obvious.

Welcome to the board, Variol (Farseer) Elmwood. May your journeys through the Gael Serran uncover new ground for all.

You've got good answers already. This board is by far the best resource for problem resolution.
