OK what do the strongholds really DO!! I'm currently playing a mage ( necromancer) and I got the Sphere, but can't find a quest or sub-quest to do with it!!

Visit it every now and then. It is a place where you can rest and store your item (DON'T LEAVE THINGS ON THE GROUND).

Have you sent the knights back yet? After several days the cowled wizard will appear again when you enter the sphere.

Yup, Send the kights home or get them to work in the Raidiant heart and you will get Teos, they you will get afew apprenti get a few laughs(and a few choice items)... graduate hunt down a wizard killer. After that You a a Big storage locker + base of operations. Why pay an in when you can sleep in your home for free.
