Why is it that drunkards/dare-devils/idiots always survive these heights when decent good-hearted folks don't?

Another board I frequent belongs to a group of UEers. For those that dont know UE stands for Urban Exploreres. They were quite concerned that the cover was left off by by one of there own group members, (although no one has admitted to it yet) If any gamers search out UEing online youd probably think its pretty cool. Sorta like exploring dungeons only in real life! (with real dangers)

Oh my, I'd say there are some dangers associated there...and not with any alligators, I might add

The reason for manhole covers being round is that there is no way they can fall through their holes. A square cover can fall through a square hole if you get the angle right -- for example:

A___B
| |
---C

Take the side from A to B, and drop it in sideways lined up between A and C. It will fall in without a second thought.

The only way you can prevent it from falling through is to extend its size beyond that of the hole -- but that, in and of itself, will be quite costly. Much cheaper to make round holes and covers.

This guy was just too chunky to fall faster than he could have - which saved his life. That and the alcohol factor. That was one hell of a hangover he woke up with the next day, huh?
