Do you see yourself as a complex, complicated person?
Or are you a simpler person?

With eiether do you see this as positive or negative either way? For example, if you're simpler, you may get less phased by things. Less worried perhaps. Get over problems easier that one who complicates issues and ponders them.

Or if you're complex, you may believe you have deeper, richer experiences by analysing things to a fault. Often over-complicating a small issue.

Interpret my question however you wish, but put simply, are you a complex personality or simpler, and are you happy with yourself and the way you are?

If you're interested in some great social theory on this issue, read Irving Goffman's "The Presentation of Self in Everyday Life." Your post makes me think you'd love it.

As for how I see myself:
1. See pic below
2. add in Sierra Club's trademard silhouette of a guy hiking
3. sprinkle in any James Bond movies you like - so long as they don't have that girl Roger Moore in them
4. mix with Real Genius and Revenge of the Nerds 1 and 2
5. let simmer for 29 years but not until bitter
6. let cool in a Bahama breeze for 2 weeks of winter
7. garnish with one beautiful wife
and VIOLA!!

I think I see myself as a person who isn't nearly as smart or complex as he thinks

I have neither complex or simplier personality. And I am happy with that.

I see myself as a simple person in some ways. I tend to take a person at his words, not analysing them for subtitles (except with you and Donut ). I tend to worry a lot about everything. Of course things usually work out so I don´t know why I worry. Of course this doesn´t mean I don not anaylyse things. I do that all the time, especially work related things. What if? How about? I am very content with myself as a person although I wish I would dtop planning months ahead and worry a little less. I am simply complicated and am sad that I'm happy about this.

In other words, at times I feel simple, at times I feel complex. Sometimes I'm happy with how I feel, sometimes I'm not.

You answered the question twice.

No I didn't.

Yes you did.

Shut up I'm trying to post a reply here.

Oh, sorry I thought you were talking to yourself.

Now where was I...?

Interesting question Yorick!

I'm really not sure where I fall to be honest. I suppose the majority of the time I look at things quite simplistically.

For example, I almost always take people at face value, and will assume that they are being honest. I think that is quite simplistic of me, it makes it difficult for me to spot duplicity or subtitles, and I can come across as a little gullible or naive.

I think overall it's a positive thing though. I'm quite direct and straightforward, know what I want out of life, understand myself, etc. I don't worry about things too much, or spend time dwelling on stuff that I can't do anything about. That's not to say I'm a particularly relaxed person - I get a bit twitchy if my brain and body are not kept occupied!

On your question about dealing with problems, I don't sit around looking at problems from every angle for ages - I work out what's wrong, work out how to fix it, or if it can't be fixed accept that. Problem solving should, IMO, be as quick a process as possible - not without thought, but without undue worry. No point worrying about things you can't change.

I'm not 100% sure that this completely answers (or even fully understands) your question exactly, I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on it.

Im not sure how I feel about this post coming from you, Yorick,

Well, lets see, looking back at my past, I would say that I am much more complex than I used to be. I dont take things for granted as much. I know what true love is now, so that will complicate anyone. I am persuing knowledge to increase my vocabulary and perception on things I believe to be true. Doing a lot more intelectual reading, in other words, instead of just fantasy novels.
I am an extremely intuative person, with compassion. Yet, I have an antisocial tendency with a temper to boot. Thats why being a cabby suits me well. I work nites, so I see all kinds (mostly drunk) and can usually talk to anyone about anything. Then they pay me and leave. Its beutifull!
I used to just kick a$$, then not even ask for there name! Kids will make you grow up fast.

So to summerise:
Simple with complex thoughts.
Positive with negative moments.
