Lately many of my games refuse to start. Well they do start minimized but itīs impossible to get them in a normal window. I tried a few things which didnīt help. Then I tried the Direct 3D rendereing in dxdiag and found to my surprise it didnīt work. I downgraded from dx8.1 to dx8.0 which helped a little. BUT my 3D acceleration comes and goes. I tried a few minutes ago and it didnīt work, then the game didnīt start. Just now it did work and then the game runs. Anyone knows what the problem might be? Is it time to get a new Graphics card? Or what is it? The only thing mentioned in dxdiag is that the driver is not certified by microsoft (using Creative Geforce2 at the moment 30.42 driver (or is it 30.72?). Any help/thoughts are greatly appreciated.

Edit: Iīm thinking format-->reinstall at the moment to clean things up...

A driver for a *geforce* is uncertified?

It would probably be a good idea to go to www.nvidia.com and download a XP compatible driver.

Dont bother with the creative drivers, because the nvidia ones are more up to date.

Iīve never had this problem before though even if the drivers were not certified. Would you say this is a driver/dx clash?

Edit: Iīm going to try and upgrade to the 40.72 drivers from Nvidia. Unfortunately lots of people have had trouble with this driver and Arx Fatalis. If it works then YAY, if not format...

Dunno. Im not an expert on nvidia drivers and how they screw up in odd circumstances.

But, if it was me, Id get updated nvidia drivers, then reinstall directX 8.1, and if that dosent work its probably time to reinstall.

There is a long technical name that describes this problem, but I can't remember it, and if I could, I couldn't spell it. Basically, the non-technical translation is, "you shouldn't mess with your registry so much because Satan lives there."

If that didn't help, I'll fall in line with those who ask about certified drivers or a reversion to the previous version of DirectX.

Some things to note. Newer nVidia drivers aren't certified, because they change so often, nVidia only certifies every so often at major steps. Almost all of them will work anyway, they just don't have the MS seal of approval guarantying (sp, hmm) that they will. Also, if you have XP, you will find that you can't just re-install DX. I couldn't find it anywhere to do it, as it is integral to XP, not an additional component. If you don't have XP, I recommend going to it. A drive change probably will fix it, if it isn't hardware. Make sure to change your video to Standard VGA, reboot, then change to the new drivers and reboot. It'll prevent overlap. I never do, but I update to update, not to fix anything

Problems seems to be solved. Installed Nvidia 40.72 (certified driver along with dx8.1). Direct3D seems to work and therefor the games should work. There still seems to be some major malfunctions in my system. When rebooting after installing dx8.1b my mouse refused to start. Itīs up and about again though. I think a format is in order. That will rid me of NTFS as well

Ronn. Thank you! After the problems above my good mood evaporated. With this you have certainly restored it! ROTFL! *hugs Ronn*
