Lords get a bonus to dual wield skill, so it's natural that your lord would be ahead of the fighters in this skill. How high is the dual wield skill of your fighters? In my experience, it does take quite a while before dual wield skill works reliably (usually by mid-game I'm finally seeing good results), and for this reason, I often prefer to go with shields. Both senses and dexterity are controlling attributes for the dual wield skill, but of the two, dexterity is probably more favourable for fighters since it will increase the number of attacks, improve chances of a successful hit, and make you more difficult for enemies to hit. Dexterity will also unlock reflection skill, whereas senses unlocks eagle eye. Unless for some reason you're concentrating on ranged skill with your fighters, it's best to work on dexterity and strength, rather than senses. Another consideration in this is your choice of weapon. Weapons with a bonus "to hit" might make the difference for you. Hope this is helpful!

yah, and weapons with Initiative bonus help get more swings faster, too.
Unfortunately, only Lords can get a bonus in Dual, unless you play some of the Mods that are out. The bonus is great, especially once you get over 100%--the second weapon actually improves the performance of the "main" hand. Fighters' Close bonus helps even out dual, too, once you go over 100% in it, but not to such an extent. |

Do you try to equip a primary-only weapon in the secondary slot? With things like a dagger or a hammer, you should be able to dual wield, no matter how your stats and skills are. |

I hadn't considered that as part of the issue, but Wereboar is right. In order to dual wield, both weapons must be of the same range, and one must be marked as a "secondary."

Joe,
Like Wearboar I'd be really interested to know in what way your Lord "cannot dual wield yet". It sounds like you have a comparible weapon in each hand (i.e. two short reach etc) and that one is Primary and one secondary (indeed I'm sure the game doesn't let you hold invalid combinations). Does he attack twice, once with each weapon? If so he is dual wielding, though perhaps poorly. If not then . Is one weapon's initiative so bad that everything has been killed before he gets to use it? My Lord has two attacks with the primary as either the first or second attacker, then the offhand weapon hits as almost the last attack each round. Often by the end of the second phase of attacks everything is dead before he gets to attack that last time. If he attacks twice, does he miss a lot? If so you are suffering the same issue that made me give up on three successive lords until I went with a Rawulf and pumped SEN, DEX & STR with 2 points per round. In the skills push Dual Wield, and whatever weapon(s) you are using. I gave my Lord two of the same weapon class most of the early game so I could concentrate on pushing points into Divinity too as I had no-one else to cast Magic Screen. Try to resist the temptation to spell cast in combat early in the game, unless your are too far away for combat anyway, and fight fight fight. [ 07-01-2005, 07:57 AM: Message edited by: bladedog ] |

sorry i seem to have caused all this controversy but as i said my lord could always dual wield.
it was the fighters i was asking about but as of my last post (i have leveled thrice since then) and now seem to have no more problems with my fighters although they still do not dual strike as quickly as my lord (wow imagine that- duh)so i guess its all just academic now. i guess i was just too impatient [ 07-01-2005, 07:27 PM: Message edited by: JOE030303 ] |
