So, I think it's about time for Hosscat to get that bigger hard drive mount...you know, so that my three hard drives aren't sitting directly on top of one another in their current rack any more?

Well, I'd call the thing a "rack" or a "mount." Apparently no one else in the world does.

What is it? It's the thing my hard drives screw into. It keeps them securely fastened into place, but they run a little warm, and I hate having them so close to one another, as it seems like a bad idea given my investment in them...so I just want a little more space.

From a side view, it's just an H-shaped piece of steel, with screw holes.

Search after search has yielded completely different things, which allow me to put my hard drives in optical drive slots. I could certainly do that...but I don't WANT to. I want that piece of metal to screw them into.

Anybody know what they're called or where I could find one?

Ha! Someone else does as well! Hear that internet!

On a more serious note, I've looked all around the dirty world of online computer stores and Froogle, and just can't find the thing at all...I'm nearly to the point that I'm tempted to make my own...

Not sure, but have you tried 'rails'?

edit: found racks listed as 'mobile racks', not sure if this is what you're looking for, though. http://www.newegg.com/ProductSort/Su...SubCategory=43

Or maybe these? http://www.interloper.com/products/index.php?cat=511

Those two links are exactly what I don't want Cloudy lol

I still can't seem to find the thing, though "rackmount" came kind of close in a google image search.

As far as I know it's part of the case and that's why there is no name for it. Look like you need a case with more hard drive slots.

My case has enough slots...they're just so close together that I'm a little worried about overheating...the company that made my current case doesn't produce other hard drive mounts...

Maybe it is time for a new case...I COULD afford it...after looking around, that may very well be what I end up doing...though simply buying a piece of metal and making my own would also be feasible, considering I'll be home all of next week, and dad has all sorts of tools and machines.

If your case had extra slots, you could leave empty ones between your drives, that's what I meant.

I'd call it a drive bay... but perhaps I've been working on too many laptops.
