Mage are better because:
* They can learn from scrolls. * They can cast more spells, like 9 1st levels while a sorceress only can cast max 6 in any level. * They can cancel a bad spell, while a sorcress gotto stick with a bad selection all his life Srocress are better cause: I can't find a single reason, please help me... I played as a sorceress but didn't find them that good. |

They can cast any combination of spells they have. They dont have to memorize the exact number of each spell before they need it. Basically, if you have the spell, you are always ready to use it.
For example, lets sat you encounter some hard enemies and you want to use fireball many times. If you are a mage and you only memorized one, then thats all you get. If you are sorceror, you can use up to 6 i think. |

1. The sorc can still use scrolls, they just don't learn from them.
2. You get the spells for free, you don't have to find them. 3. Instead of sleeping and memorizing spells for each battle, you may use whatever combo that you want and you don't have to bother with spell selection each night. As a hard-core AD&D player, this was very nice. The only first level spells I use are MM, C-Orb, and Identify anyway. I would like to be able to use identify 6 times in a day if I found a lot of goods, or 6 MMs for a tough battle. A mage would prob have those split and either wouldn't have enough MMs or IDs depending on the situation. For most battles, the Sorc is easier to manage. I can't count the times I ran out of a certain spell in the heat of a batttle, and was forced to use a bow while having a ton of useless spells memorized for a particular situation. 4. The major CON is that you can't dual-class a sorc. If u are going to be a mage in BG2, you would be foolish to not start as a fighter and dual to mage. Since the Mage gets to level 7 at 64K, you would be level REALLY fast (on the first map), and you could have 98 HPs (14*7) plus be able to go max specialization in Bow/Dual Wield/Hammer etc so that you can melee when you need to. I like the hammer specialization for the mage, then u can use the Crom/Thunderbolts and take out the golems solo (especially since most spells don't work against them anyway). |

The way they memorise gives them more versatility, and the other advantage is that they're in the Belgariad, but they are all no match for a mage such as I!
