I thought that was interesting. But it never got anywhere.

I wouldn't mind the flat tax either, it would save mounds of money for the government and the people, as long as it were iron clad with no loop holes, but still it would be an income tax and I oppose those on principle.

I didn't say that the plan as written was simple or under 500 words Said they should just get rid of all the legalese and just MAKE a simple plain policy in 500 words or less. It can be done but won't because lawyers wouldnt make any money on it, congressmen wouldnt get paid kickbacks for special consideration in legislation and the IRS would be out of work, so no its not likely to happen, I just want the whole system to be scrapped and redone...won't happen....but thats what I want. Oh and get the damn socialism out of it. minority views suck don't they In this case Im the minority, I know the majority of US citizens love to rob from therich to give to the poor, hell England even has a hero just for it

Note also the reservations some of the people interviewed in the article expressed. But, the most telling of all is the guy who made the point that the Gov. will get its money, like it or not.

National Sales tax, Flat Tax, its all a mess. I may be wrong, but I believe that the government has no right to take things from the citizens. And by doing it the way we do, they take from you, you do not choose to give. It grate on my nerves and seems a perversion of what the founders intended and has spawened a corrupt behemouth called federal government that is so innefficient that only 50 cents out of every dollar gets where it is supposed to...if that.

I would say LESS THAN 50 cents gets to where it should, MagiK. From the government agencies I've encountered that I have had any info about, it seems to me the bureacracy that redistributes the money barely pays for itself.

Example:
There are 50 attorneys, 4 judges, 15 administrative judges, and all the necessary court and security personnel to go with it (all state employees) in one building in downtown Chicago busily at work right now bringing deadbeat fathers in so they can garnish their wages for child support. Now, to the extent those mothers have been given money by the state, the money taken from the father goes in part to pay the state back. But, I've seen the numbers, and even the most successful attorneys there only garner about $50K returned to the state per year. This barely pays the state attorney's salary, not to mention all the appertunant personnel.

I'm certainly all for tracking down deadbeat dads, especially those jumping job-to-job and keeping property in their mother's names to avoid the system. But, even to do this task, a morally good task one could argue, the government is still simply a money sink-hole.

That whole dead-beat-dad issue is another one of my pet peeves, Men should shoulder their responsibilities, on the other hand, having a court tell a guy who earns 1500 a week that he has to give his ex 1000 a week is bit excessive and actually contributes tot he problem, if the guy cannot afford to even pay rent, how is he supposed to keep a job ...etc...etc. Very messed up system there.

Fortunately for me, my ex and I settled amicably and out of court on what was fair child support.

Eisenschwarz, don't come to Tennessee and live, cause they would run you out on a rail for utteriing the words "Income Tax" especially with the word "State" in front! A VERY, VERY unpopular idea here in this state!

Majik, there is no way under the sun that any bill would , under any circumstances, get out of congress at 500 words or less. So you shouldn't even mention it.

I vote for a flat tax and doing away with all other forms of tax. No more sales, property, Value added, sin or anything else tax. Just one flat tax, the same on everyone. And no exemptions what so ever. NADA! NONE! It's the only fair way. Anything else and it's to easy to cheat.
The U.S. Constitution says that the way the Federal Gov't is to generate revenue is by tariffs on foreign trade, and if this amount is not sufficient, then the gov't is supposed to ASK the States for contributions. This keeps the Federal gov't accountable to the states and the citizens, instead of the way it is now, with the states and citizens at the mercy of the Federal gov't. The center of power is SUPPOSED to belong to the individual states and the PEOPLE.

Yes, the silly argument that income tax is unconstitutional.

Wouldn't it be nice if it were true. Here's a better history of the income tax:

TL it really is, the very nature in which it was implemented is evidence that they really didn't want the people having a say in the matter. Im aware that the supreme court has upheld it, but that really doesnt make it right, that just makes it legal.
