Finally got me a Sony DVD-ROM, and it came with PowerDVD 5, but I see online that I can buy an updgrade to version 6. One of the things that version 6 does that 5 does not seem to do is have support for 5.1 speakers. But would it be worth the cost, taking in all the promises of what all 6 can do and do I want the standard or suped-up edition?
Can anyone make a suggestion? Or maybe you know of software that is better than PowerDVD 6?

Larry I use PowerDVD 6.0 and was using 5 prior to this one. The only thing that's got me a bit lost now is that I'm pretty sure that even 5 had support for 5.1 speakers. I only run 5.1 on my computers so no support means I'm not using it!
Oh yeah, I'm using PowerDVD 6.0 Deluxe in case you were wondering. Check you PM. [ 05-20-2005, 10:28 AM: Message edited by: Bokken ] |

Thanks for the vote of approval towards version 6, Bokken. Since you are familiar with it and version 5, then you already know alot about it that I do not.

I got V6 free with my motherboard, comes in handy for 5.1 speakers.

I used Powerdvd 5 but when I upgraded to 6 it stopped working for some reason, so I switched to WinDVD which is also pretty decent.

I used to use Powerdvd (5 and 6) but switched to TheaterTek, it allows me to use FFDShow to do dynamic image enhancement... a necessity for making DVD's look good on a large screen.
I seem to recall that 5 and 6 both support 5.1, but come to think of it, I don't know if I ever specifically CHECKED using 5... perhaps it was just playing 2 channel through all 5. |

That is what mine does now...plays two channel through all five...There is no surround sound that gives each speaker its own life.
