It's about my fighter folks. He is currently in his 6th level. He is wonderful. He is very good with a longsword and light weapons such as rapier. You see I have a powerful enchanted rapier and longsword. They are both so good I can't decide which one to choose. So I decided hey wield them Do'Urden style! I thought it was a good idea I quicksaved and when I leveled up I picked Ambidexterity and 2 Weapon Fighting feats. Sweet I say but obviously there are to false points.
1.The Armor class the 22 went down to 18. My dude cannot take so many hits. Has has 60 something health. 2. The attack bonus which is better 10/5 or (I think it's) 6/1? It's great I can attack more than once per round but I am getting hit too much for my liking. Should I be like Drizzt or leave my guy the way he is.

Anybody else who have opinons opposing Nanobites?
I think you are right though previous times I always had my fighters wield two weapons at the same time. But still I haven't made up my mind.

Now that you've taken the feats, you'd better start using them. But note that the rapier does not count as a smaller weapon than the longsword, even though it should. You'd be better off using a small weapon in the off hand, or a double-bladed weapon.
As a melee fighter, you really have three styles to choose from. You have the extra damage bonus from using a large weapon like the greatsword, the extra defense bonus from using a weapon in combination with a shield, and the extra attack bonus from using two weapons at once. The large weapons mean your enemies die sooner and can therefore deal you less damage. The shield means your enemies will have a harder time hitting you and can therefore deal less damage. But in my experience, as the extra attack from dual wielding comes with a to hit penalty, even though you swing more often you'll not score enough extra hits to be able to compete with the two other styles. It requires several feats to compensate, which might be better spent on abilities like Cleave (for the extra attack), Weapon Specialisation (for the extra to hit/damage) and Dodge/Mobility (for the extra armour class bonus). The only really good things about wielding two weapons are that it looks cool, and that you can equip two different magical weapons at once. Good thing you saved [ 07-02-2003, 07:18 AM: Message edited by: Legolas ] |

Well I had already made my decision. I'll countinue on with my Sword and Shield style. My character has a low constitution of 14 so he can't that many hits. Do you consider and average damage of 10 and up to be good for a 6th level fighter? I still am in Chapter 1.

I wouldn't consider a con of 14 to be low. It's just one point away from being at an 'exceptional' level for a human/dwarf/goblin etc.. You can buy some magical boots to increase it if you feel you have too few hitpoints.
Sword & shield is the most reliable style, you live longer so that gives you more time to perform actions. A longsword does 1d8 points of damage, which means that at an average of 10 damage at lvl 6 you have no cause for complaint. |
