im a 13 year old kid and i don't know if i should be getting into this stuff..... but i am a big fan of Baldur's gate and BG2 and i am so interested in it because of the whole set of D&D rules.....

Anwayz i am finished all baldur's gate games and am thinking of getting into the ol' pen and paper D&D but i am not sure where to look for people that would play the game.......(somewhere safe without risks) and none of my friends play it so I'd really appreciate any sort of help

Hey, Robohobo!

Well, I'm not sure where you live, but you may try to find local clubs that sponsor AD&D games. See if there's a gaming or hobby shop in your area.

Barring that, you can play online with others as well. You can look over at

http://www.webrpg.com/
http://www.rpg.net/

to get an idea of what's out there.

There's also our own Role Playing forum you can visit here at Ironworks. Check the "jump" box at the bottom of the page and see what they have to offer there.

Hope this helps!

Cheers,
-Sazerac

Robo dude, I would suggest that if you are going to play with strangers, do so in a public place like a game and hobby shop.

I would say, however, that it is much more fun if you play with your friends. When I was about 11, most of my friends didn't play either, so me and one other guy rounded 'em all up and said, "you're playing."

It worked. Half my high school graduating class had played rpgs with each other by the time we were done with school. Some people kept playing them through high school (half may sound unrealistic, but I went to a small school).

Try your friends out first. They might be more receptive than you think. Everybody likes playing games (most everybody, my wife can't stand games of any sort).

Alot of the big controversy around gaming is the result of a few people who had serious mental problems and happened to play dungeons and dragons, combine that with "magic" and "my good little christian boy playing a priest of a false god" the same people who deride Harry Potter of promoting witchcraft and evil are the ones who have been most vocal in attaching a stigma to the game.

the most notable case against d&d happened over 15 years ago, IIRC in Indiana, a young man who happened to play the game got lost in some sewers under a college campus, and comitted suicide. if you go to A brief history of TSR , and TSR FAQ you can get some more general info on the history of the game, if you look aorund on the site you should be able to track down the article about the suicide, and other bad press they've recieved.

We used to ahve a game shop up here

We used to have a huge group who played

We used to have a friendly communtiy to the idea

What happned?

a- a kid got lost and got gain green. Parents asked: Why was he up in the forst tied to a tree?

b- the huge group was his friends, some confessed, they wanted to act out D&D scences, but the group got mixed up and lost and all wne thome, all thinking someoen woudl get the other kid, no-one did

c- when they fodun out, the shop was blamed by our christian community, and well, no-one wne there. the guy clsoed up shop, and took a job as a janitor at the school.

I'll admit, when people get a bit serious about games, it can get ugly, but when you start saying devils are possesing 5 year old kids about it, then thats when the urban legends start

Hey I have a question

I've been working on a simple rpg that all you need is a d20 die, some paper and pens, and some friends. Crappy promo, but its true.

The GM makes up his world, some basic mosnetr stats are provdeed alogn with basic combat rules and effects, and soem basic magicary, but this first edition is based on the GM makign most of the game, with help from the other players. For instance, if the GM approves, a high level mage can make up a spell (ie "Melfs" acid arrow)

I almost have it done, but when I do, I'm wondering, How can I get it to peopel who would play?? (its free cause its through the internet and you print it out)
