Windows 7 - who's getting it?
Micro$oft will release Windows 7 to the world this week.
http://www.smh.com.au/technology/win...1019-h3mz.html I've been on Vista since Feb last year and I can't wait to upgrade. Prior to that I was on WinXP. But I'm guessing you'll have to do a clean install which is a major pain. How many of you are planning to upgrade? If not right away, in the next few months? Buying a Win7 PC or doing an upgrade? |

If there were an option for a free upgrade I'd go for it, but I have no $$$ to speak of right now. That aside, assuming it doesn't create a whole slew of new compatibility issues, I'd do it. Last time I read about it, it was supposed to be less of a resource hog than Vista, has this changed?

I have no idea. I want to get rid of Vista though. But clean installs (although I know they're the right way to do it) are such a PITA...particularly as a lot of software on my laptop came preinstalled.

Re: Windows 7 - who's getting it?
I'm planning on upgrading, Everything I've heard and read looks like it fixes many of the PITA issues of Vista, but keeps a lot of the look and feel, which can unfortunately draw people to associate it with the bad things in Vista that nobody likes or just didn't work.

Clean install, of course. I just need to back up everything before I do.

Or for that matter, WinXP games? I wanna play Deus Ex 2, and Thief 3 again, but they don't work on Vista. (yes, it still bothers me. :p )

Re: Windows 7 - who's getting it?
From what I've heard, it has an XP emulator you can run to play XP or earlier games that aren't inherently supported. Note, this is NOT Vista's Compatability Mode, but a full XP emulation.
