I have a few questions, as I just bought this game less than a week ago...
1) I created an oomphaz wizard, and just changed him toi warlock at level 2. Is this wise, or should i let him gain a few levels as a wizard first?

2) how do i advance my guild level? i have a level 3 fighter who is in the warrior guild, but at his last level increase, he didn't go up a guild level. will this happen automatically, or do i gotta purchase guild levels, just like membership?

and 3) some advice on party creation. I have a female human fighter who i want to be a paladin then a valkyre, a male gourk fighter who started out good enough to be a samurai (thank you random die rolls), A male human priest who i want to be a monk then zen master, a male oomphaz wizard/warlock, a male human thief who i want to be an assassin, and a male elf warrior who \uses the bow, who i want to be a ranger. is this a good combo, or should i have a couple diff chars?

thanks for any help...

Welcome to the board, Masque!!!

General rule of thumb is to wait until a magic user gets up to about level 12 or 14 (has had a chance to learn the highest level spells) before changing them - this is NOT as critical with a Wizard turned Warlock since you can continue to learn the same spells. I would still advise waiting a few more levels before changing class though for the advantage of gaining levels more quickly when you do change class.

You have to do GUILD QUESTS to gain guild levels. Ask the guild master about QUESTS! Very important!

As for your character plans - they sound fine to me! This game is very flexible when it comes to classes and almost any combination can work. Do what you like and have fun!!

Valkyrie and ZenMaster are only obtainable near the very end of the game BUT you can replay the game with your same characters and develop them on the second time around!

I can't add much to Wyvern's thoughts on the first two questions, other than I agree.

On the third, I've found myself much less concerned with class paths than when I first started. I prefer to keep spellcasters in their original class until they've gotten the higher level spells (storm spells and exorcism, in particular). Then I move them through other classes, usually spending time as at least a ninja, samurai, and perhaps ranger (to get fletchery). I tend to avoid bards (never saw the real advantage), and I convert fighters to barbarians ASAP. Doing that allows me to avoid having a rogue at the start.

But, as Wyvern said, the best part is that every party combination is a good one. Find what you like and enjoy it.
